So I'm working on my 1960s SMERSH Savage Worlds game. I decided to make one of the two possible snipers a woman, so I did a google search for female Soviet snipers. The first link is a Wikipedia article about Soviet snipers. In said article, I see a list of the top Soviet snipers, and discover that several are women. Then I click on this link for this phenom.Hot blonde Russian sniper F. T. W. And I would never have discovered Ms Shanina had it not been for this weird hobby.

Wow, she is cool!
ya, the game I'm running now is a 14th century new templars/secret agents of the pope's, where the Templar's main mission has always been to keep the darkness in the dark. And, the more I researched 14th century European history the more I found to work with. It was such a volatile time, the Black Death became the zombie outbreak, Moldavia was freed from Hungary rule (by vampires of course), Khan's Golden Horde remnants were encountered, the earthquake destruction of the town of Bazil, Switzerland (1356) and Iceland's biggest volcanic eruption since Pompeii (1362) were both magically caused (also, Iceland had this cool state of anarchy for 300 years that was quite functional), Pirates!, the pope's exile in France and the harems owned by the church played a role in the game, the 100 years war is going on the whole time, the agents freed Geoffrey Chaucer from his imprisonment in 1361, and the main villain behind a lot of the agent's troubles was one Marin Falier, the doge of Venice, who was beheaded in 135? and pronounced Damnatio Memoriae by the church (erase all memory of him) which lead to him being a lich. Still, there is so much more that I learned and used from history that I would have never known had it not been for researching for this campaign.

I did the research for the Top Secret game that Dave and I are running at Orccon and the wiki trail of links had me looking at the oldest university in Poland to see what their engineering school was like then over to the proclivities of Eastern African dictators and what their early childhood was like.
There was also some super great stuff that Dave found, but those would be spoilers.
