www.herogames.com/viewItem.htm?itemID=294214I just bought the pdf and book bundle. I pdf is really nice! Can't wait for the book version to arrive in my mailbox. It may be a bad thing or a good thing. Good for me, though. The book is like Champions Complete. You don't need the core books to play MHI. Just like Champions Complete, the rules are included. Also included in the zip file is the "HERO in 2 Pages" pdf for those who are new to HERO. -

This looks very cool. I may have finally found a product to get me into 6th Ed. I really like the fact that it includes the full rules.
I have shared HERO in 2 Pages with new players and it's been a big help.

Read at least the three books first. The RPG contains a LOT of spoilers.

I give a copy of that document to all of my players at cons. i have no idea why I didn't think to give them to the players in my online game. I am such an idiot some times. (Sorry guys that would have helped with some things) JiB

Sorry. - This has been a big topic of discussion on the Hero discussion forums in the thread about the hopefully upcoming book on fantasy games which is as yet (to my knowledge) untitled though personally I like "Fantasy Complete". The point being that the discussion is whether to make the fantasy book complete in itself or make it require Champions Complete. I can see arguments both ways though I personally would tend to lean towards the latter myself because that would mean more fantasy focused content. Cheers JiB

Hey JiB or any other Jackers,
Just purchased the hero books PDF combo and have the MHI book in hard cover and pdf. Never played hero but bought the MHI book as I am a fan of the author.
Anyway, am considering doing a game based in this universe for Orcon 2014. Y\Two quick questions. First, how hard would you say Hero is to run compared to other systems (familiar with GURPS, Savage Worlds, 4e, BRP.) I am gonna play test the game a couple times before then but as far as character creation etc. I am a total newb in this system and am not sure what to expect.
Second question. Are there any optional rules (hit location etc) that you would think are must haves in this kinda one shot? As it will be my first game in the system I was planning on keeping it relatively basic but don't want to slight the experience and leave something out that sets hero apart.

Hero is no harder to RUN than any other system. There is a fair bit of work that goes into the mechanical setup. Most of that involves creating the characters. For grunts and such I usually pull things from published work or from things I've used in the past. There is a wealth of stuff available through the forums and online about characters of different types and such.
Let me say again, the hard part is making the characters. Or let me say it's not hard it's the hard work of doing it. I highly recommend getting a copy of Hero Designer, and then you will want to get the MHI Hero Designer data pack that will make your life much easier all the way around.
I tend to gloss over rules like hit location and such (except for my zombie game where it really matters). Most of the players you'll get at a con will be new to Hero but will be down with the genre and such so going light on the rules is a good call. That said, particularly at a Strategicon event you will get a couple of people. Bruce, Casey, myself and Dustin and a few others who are experienced Hero players who may want to use additional rules.
One strong suggestion I would make is to run a few smaller game sessions with your regular group or with people you know to get a feel for how the system works before you do a convention game.
Anything I can do to help, do not hesitate to ask.
JiB
