We are getting close to Gamex! I know this is the con where the Happy Jacks presence is least felt, but I just wanted to post up here as a reminder to those who may still want to go May 23rd through the 26th at the LAX Hilton.
As a side note, if anyone still wanted to contribute to the RPG Library now is the time to contact me about your donations.
Thanks, Jim

Hey Jim ( plusx2a), I may be joined by my daughter on Sunday. What opportunities are you aware of for doing kid things Sunday, as a moderator? One option I was thinking on was running an RPG for kids (e.g. the lego one I did prior), but I don't think my daughter is mature enough to allow me to run it, yet (would require too much babysitting). That said, are there things I can run for kids in general? My daughter and I play some games frequently, like Rat-a-tat-cat (card game like memory), King of Tokyo, Wiz War, and a few others. Is there any "kids only" version of the board game 101s, on family Sunday? Maybe set up a few hours of moderated fun (e.g. a 9-10am card game session, a 10-11am King of Tokyo session, a 11am-noon Wiz War session, etc.) Who's the right person to talk to about this?

Tomes,
Currently there is a conversation about running what we call a "Kids Track". What this entails is a series of kid friendly events run during the course of the day throughout the convention. We are currently searching for someone to organize and supervise this track, but it is definitely something we are looking into making available to attendees like you who bring their kids to con. As soon as we find someone qualified and passionate about making this happen, it will be made available.
You are not the first person to ask about kid friendly events in my and other departments. The real issue is having people that volunteer to run these games. I have few tools when it comes to encouraging or otherwise coercing people to run certain kinds of games. It’s a take what I can get economy for me when it comes to that. If you would like to run some kid friendly games, I would be happy to find you space to do so.
Our convention is, as you probably know run in departments that revolve around “styles” of games. Boardgames, RPG, Miniatures, etc. In my opinion, the best thing we can do for you is set aside space in open gaming. The man to talk to about that is Mike Fryer and I would be happy to put you in contact with him if you wish.
The way I look at it, this is an imperative since we will be fostering future generations of Strategicon attendees.
Regards, Jim Sandoval

I just sent one of my friends to your website to sign up for your con He was telling me how he'd always wanted to play, but never knew anyone, and so I was like "OH MAN YOU LIVE NEAR THIS PLACE YOU SHOULD GO VISIT THEM". So, hooray!

Wheee! Finally got my game registered (for Friday 2pm and Monday 9am, hopefully), cutting it close to deadline:
"A Vargon war fleet has discovered the Earth and, as is the Vargon way, has pulled four mighty warriors from our timeline to compete in The Trials. Come determine the fate of the world! Pre-gens include Knight, Legionary, Pirate, Samurai, Sioux, Spartan, Viking, and Zulu. (Combat-heavy game, but no prior knowledge of GURPS necessary.)"

There will be two kids-only RPGs run by Noah Tolliver, my girlfriend's 12 year old son -- Saturday at 2 and Sunday at 2. The system is the very freeform Short Order Heroes which is easy to play. How old is your daughter?

How old is your daughter? Yes! My daughter is 5 now, and we got to play in Noah's game last time at Orccon 2014. She was very shy at the time and didn't really interact much, but got to observe the other kids (in addition they were all around the 8-10 age range, and she was the youngest). It was a great first experience, and Noah ran an awesome game. Turns out I had played with him before. When I was getting back into RPG a few years ago, I did a D&D Encounter at Game Empire, and I was in his first game there (along with another 10 year old), it was pretty fun to see. Anyways, this coming Gamex on Sunday Nova and I will be running Gaming 101's for "Kids only"... currently we're scheduled every hour from noon onwards: 12pm: Rat-a-tat-cat 101 1pm: Kinderbunnies 101 2pm: Quirkle 101 3pm: still figuring it out... we've got it listed as Wiz War 101. I actually wanted to run King of Tokyo, but apparently someone is already doing a 101 on that (but for all ages). Thanks Caoimhe!

Invasion of the Lava Men is also a kids only game scheduled with RPGs at the same time as your Short Order Heroes game. Looks like that back room will be full of children! Super awesome.
On to a more adult point. Rooms are sold out on Saturday. They sold out this past Friday night. Doubles and kings are available on Friday/Sunday, but Saturday has nothing left but suites.
The Hilton has added some smaller rooms -- the Hilton has a few rooms with just a double. But not many. Also, they found us 2 more doubles. They might be gone by the time you read this.
People might have to book piecemeal, as their system will put you in the same room for the whole show. It would obviously mean making room changes during the show.
