ok so i'm planning on running a con game at xenocon in iowa in april, i have the basic idea behind it, the problem i'm having is how do i approach it. i can tell some ideas here but i don't want to go into too much detail as it is possible others from here might actually play the game
so here is a vague idea -the pc's will be given a task to assassinate a mob of human trafficers who are set up at a lavish penthouse party -i've gotten certain twists in mind to throw at the party of course -i'd also like to incorporate a chase scene as well -i have most of the possible combats in mind and where and when to drop them on the part
i'm using savage worlds for this game and will probably set the pc's at veteran level with each one having a specific power from the supernatural powers list
the pc ideas i have are a driver who is bonded to his car a femme fatale a young boy a former cop a buisnessman a quiet korean housewife
any thoughts and opinions are greatly accepted, thanks

What if you started them in the middle of the chase scene and did a flashback to see how they got there. The finish of the chase scene is the finale. Might be a tad tougher for you if they go off rails, but you start in a combat and can get dice rolling and it is an interesting way to tell the story.

I'm a fan of the flashback idea. As hosierrob suggested, start the game mid chase, then flash back to show how things got to that point, and finish with the end of the chase.
I think you can help keep the players on the rails if you make it clear right from the start that the PCs must get to the finish point of the chase for them to succeed. For example, since they'll be dealing with human traffickers, let's say they start the game with the daughter of the President in the car and all know that they must get her away from the bad guys and to point X to be safe. After a few rounds of the chase scene you go back to the beginning of the story, have the players infiltrate the house and (eventually) find the President's daughter. Then you can flash forward to the end of the chase scene for the end of the game.
This uses the metagame in your favor. The players all know that they have to get the President's daughter to safety even if that's not the mission their characters are given at the start of the session. When the characters find her in game, the players will all know "OK. Time to get out of here and start the chase." Yes, they could all decide to not move to the chase scene thereby screwing up the continuity of the story. But I think they'd be more inclined to follow the rails if you gave them a very clear, in game sign of where things are supposed to go.
