...two 2 hour gaps for food or possibly a quick run in the grind house. Fairly sure I can manage a short game there. Only if muntjack doesn't start another "peaceful" revolution... I have either forgotten or missed this story. I'll have to get the scoop from one of you that weekend.

w00t, I received an email that my Walt's Angels game is already fully booked! (I was given the chance to run it a second time on Sunday, but I really want into that Traveller game.)

lowkeyoh I don't know how early I'll be able to get out from work on Friday, but I am interested in your 3pm game. Well, as of right now I'm at 1/6 players because I forced the people I'm coming with to play Atomic Robo at 12. So if I stay empty, we'll have two people join me at 4. If you can make it then, I can just bring you all in at the same time.

If my D&D game falls though, it's not going to be the end of the world to me. And I have 3 players for Star Wars Traveller.
But what I really have my heart set on is the Savage Worlds Supers game. Saturday at 7 PM. I know it's a busy time slot, but maybe I can sway your minds with Super Heroes vs Nazi Werewolves

Things are looking bad for me this year, gents. I'm thinking I'll be unable to attend. Since I live in Iowa City, I may be able to run by to say hi and check out the dealers, but it's looking like no games this time around :-(

Sorry lowkeyoh but I think I'll be lucky just to get to Gamicon on Friday by 4:30. If your game is running I may just peak over people's shoulder till they get creeped out.

So far the Guidebook app that Gamicon hooked up with seems nice enough. Don't know if they had that last year or not but it's better than looking for cards at a doorway to find out what room you're in.

I just noticed that all of the happyjacks related games that I've joined/stalked are in the same room. If this is because some reputation has been earned I'd like to think it was the Fiasco game where a scene was started like this: uselesstriviaman to jimto while gesturing to Sam: "Okay, you're balls deep in Priscilla! Go!" JimTo: "Donkey Punch!" Later there was some concern expressed by the players as we noticed neighboring tables with kids. We got over it.

Thanks to uselesstriviaman for letting me take a crack at his awesome GRINDHOUSE! I would have made it to the top, too- if I didn't have to run off for a 4pm hippy game! All the HJ people I met at Gamicon were awesome. Please remain so.

Gamicon after-ops report: I rolled in at 4:00 on Friday and found that the new venue was pretty sweet. This year the convention relocated from the U of Iowa Student Union to the downtown Sheraton hotel. I didn't have a scheduled game until 7PM, so I had plenty of time to scope out the new layout and check out all the dealers. I still had plenty of time to kill, so I ended up in the video game room where they had scores of classic games for Nintendo, Super NES, and other more recent platforms. I fired up a few old-school favorites and had myself a ball. The only onsite food option was the upstairs restaurant, but there were LOTS of other restaurants available within a one-block radius. Even in February, it was an easy walk. I chose Forbidden Planet, a barcade half a block from the hotel. I was quite glad I did. Very good calzones, and fantastic fun playing old-school arcade games. Centipede, Burgertime, Street Fighter II, Gorf, and plenty more (and a handful of classic pinball machines, too). I could have spent a few hours in there drinking beer and gaming, but I had a 7PM game to run. I think Walt's Angels 2: Inglorious Bitches went pretty well; lowkeyoh and gandalftheplaid are certainly welcome to give me some constructive criticisms. The ex-princesses succeeded in their mission and were able to blow up the VIP room of the theater, taking out the entire high command of the House of Mouse. I know it was a bit ham-handed of me to let Emperor Mickey survive the blast, but it totally sets up next year's upcoming final chapter - Walt's Angels 3: Use the Force, Angels!Saturday I arrived at 8AM to set up the Grindhouse, and this year I ran my game out in the hall right next to the registration table. (Apparently I must have a reputation for running a loud game - they kept my tables pretty isolated from everyone else.) Grindhouse went well, but seemed to suffer a bit from a lack of players. I had an unexpected lull in the middle of the run, when I lost six players simultaneously when they all had to go to their other scheduled events. On the upside, I got to take a break for about an hour halfway through. On the downside, we only got through 28 rounds of combat and 30 gladiators in the 8-hour window. After the Grindhouse ended at 6PM, gandalftheplaid and I ran upstairs to grab a quick bite from the hotel restaurant before my Dread game at 7PM. It was great getting to kick back and visit with him, but we wound up needing to get our food to go so we wouldn't be late to the game. Ah well. At least the beer was good. I think my Dread game went very well - at least, it felt good to me. This is a great system; the Jenga tower REALLY ratchets up the tension as the game progresses. The props also worked well to enhance the game, and I'll happily keep running that scenario in the future. After devoting both Friday and Saturday to running events, on Sunday I did nothing but play. I tried out Steve Jackson's Give Me the Brain! and Zombie Dice in my first hour. Both were good, and thankfully neither needed a whole lot of mental prowess. I was pretty zombie-ish myself until I got some more caffeine into my system. And then at 10AM I sat down to play in lowkeyoh 's Star Wars Traveller game. GodDAMN that was fun. I've heard so many of you talking up Traveller character creation, but this was my first time ever actually doing it. By the time we were done, I was a Mon Calamari medic who'd gotten to rank E4 in the Imperial Navy before becoming a free trader. My PC's best friend was... well, he was an Ewok who'd somehow made it as an Imperial fighter pilot. It was weird. It was hilarious. The other player and I started riffing off each other's jokes, and before I knew it we'd determined that his Ewok was a frizzy puffball due to my requirements for high humidity levels, but he managed his fur with a full grooming station. (We don't ever talk about the time he tried giving himself a perm.) The team's mission was a full-on success: we accidentally stumbled into the hidden facility where the first Death Star was being built, and came up with the brilliant idea to hack in and modify the schematics. We added a small exhaust port...Thank you lowkeyoh for a great game. I'm genuinely slightly saddened that I won't get to play out my Mon Calamari, but I'm definitely going to play some more Traveller. Some day. The convention attendance was way up this year - there were over 500 attendees, up from 400 last year. It was great, and I can't wait to do it again.
