Hi all,
So for a campaign that is coming up my character is going to be using Poisoned Cross-bow bolts. My GM told me to stat as it as an Affliction and Innate Attack and then base the cost per dose on that, as opposed to what the book says and do the cost/dose based on the point cost. I am fine with this, as it is his game and he is GM, but was wondering how others statted out poisons and handled costs. I am a little worried that the cost of my poison is going to be quite high, despite it not being as damaging as Cyanide (which costs $2/dose), because it costs 99 points. Also, please check my math.... I may have done it slightly wrong. Thanks!
Here is the statted out innate attack and affliction for the poison: Toxic Damage (3 lvls) (Base cost 4/lvl) 3d of damage Enhancements: Cyclic (5 cycles @ 1 cycle/min) (+40% * 5 = +200%) Limitations: Blood Agent (-40%) Total Mods: +160% Cost: (6.4/levl) 18 Resistance Roll: None Affliction (3 levels (Paralsys +150%, Secondary (If fail HT roll by 5 or more) Heart Attack +60%) (Base cost 10/lvl) Enhancements: Follow Up (+0%) Limitations: Blood Agent (-40%) Total Mods: +170% Cost:(27/lvl) 81 Resistance Roll: HT-2

Checking your math per 4ed GURPS: Affliction:- 10 points / level
- 3 levels
- 30 points base cost
Modifiers: - Blood Agent: -40% (must be infused through a mucous membrane)
- Follow Up: +0% (delivered by crossbow wound)
- Primary Affliction: +150% (Incapacitation via Paralysis)
- Secondary Affliction: +60% (Heartattack - 1/5 of normal cost of 300%)
Total Cost: 30 * (-40% + 0% + 150% + 60%) = 51 points
Innate Attack (Toxic Damage): - 4 points / level
- 3 levels
- 12 points base cost
Modifiers:Cyclic Enhancement:- 1 minute cycles (+40% cost * (# of cycles -1)) see page 104 for the explanation
- 5 cycles total
- +40% * (5-1) = +160%
- Blood Agent: -40% (must be infused through a mucous membrane)
- Onset: +0% (immediate)
- Resistible: +0% (not resistible)
Total Cost: 12 * (+160% - 40% + 0% + 0%) = 14.4 rounded up = 15
I have the total cost as 66 points (51 points for the Affliction & 15 points for the Innate Attack). Based on the cyclic nature of the poison (a total of 15d6 over 5 minutes time) you've created a deadly toxin that also causes paralysis and likely a heart attack. If I were the GM, I'd make this damn expensive! Are you planning on attacking Samurai Elephant Wizards from 52nd level of Hell??? Seriously though, why so deadly?

I took out cyclic. But I am trying to create a poison that kills really fast, without giving guards a chance to cry out in alarm. The paralysis takes care of that, but I also want it to be deadly. I am basing this off of Golden Dart Frog poison, which is some of the deadliest on earth. A single dose from a frog can kill two african bull elephants. According to Wikipedia, this equates to killing 15,000 humans/gram. So ya. A VERY deadly poison. While the actual poison only causes paralysis, the paralysis is permanent, and irl we don't have HP gagues, so some liberties have to be taken.
And yes, my character is from a jungle.

Jungle Poison, when you care enough to kill the very most.

ya... I may nerf it a bit more. Not sure though. I think my GM actually came to a reasonable price... then I promptly forgot it and didn't write it down...
