With you on the pdf thing. FFG seem to be as against them as much as WOTC used to be. I have a friend with extremely compromised vision who finds the hard copy difficult to use; pdf copies are much easier for him. It's a real shame they're not available. It isn't FFG. Star Wars as a property has slammed game makers with this no digital garbage from the beginning. FFG makes other role playing books that are available via PDF. Their End of the World game line is available via PDF as is Wahammer Fantasy and 40ks role playing lines.

That's a really good point, and one I blithely missed (especially since I have a couple of the WFRP ones)! It's still a shame. My vision-compromised pal is bitterly disappointed he can't get Star Wars pdf from FFG; he's against becoming a buccaneer, as am I, even though we both love Star Wars and the games.

I think Vulcans will be in the Imperial Federation of Planets source book. Are they not a Jedi Sect: 'There is no emotion, there is Logic . . .' Aaron

The only thing I didn't like about the beginner boxed set was the fact that there were no rules for character creation at all. You pretty much have to play the characters that are given as they are given. I understand the reasoning for that, but I would have liked the option at least to maybe even switch some stuff up on a pre-gen or have a clue about how characters are made. I use that as a bit of litmus test on a game. Most importantly though the box comes with the dice, which are crucial.

So if you aren't a beginner or introducing any new people to RPG's you are probably better off getting core book + dice. People who know better will correct me if I'm wrong.

How much is the beginner sets? If they are $20, it's probably a good deal, as you get counters, maps, etc.
I bought enough sets to run a con game, and that adds up.

Character creation wise, the best tool out there is the OggDude's Character Generator on the FFG forums, a quick google for it will pop it up quickly. It has all the books loaded into it, for all the species, including the fan made menagerie.

The beginner box can be had for under thirty US dollars = 1,000,000 Koala ball bucks, although my conversions might be a bit off. I've said it before but FFG is a company which is dreadfully good at squeezing money out of its customers. Ooooh this game has 40+ minis with an Imperial Walker! Bought it. Ooooh this game has lots of ships perfect for space combat scenes. Bought it. But when it comes down to it...one of the Core books and you're off and running. Honestly what you get with each new core book is actually a rule set, GM information, a short scenario at the end. There's a fair amount of redundancy between the three books. If you know RPGs you can create most of this information yourself. Having said that I own all three core books, cuz' Star Wars.

Stu won't have to worry about minis for the con (at least) as I have a few hundred thanks to my amazing wife.

Stu Venable Does mean we're going to see an EotE Actual Play in the future?

Yes. I can't start a third campaign now, but there will be one in the future. My guess is that it'll start after the DnD Eldemy story arc concludes.
I'm also thinking about running a one shot for a couple friends and their kids (with my kids as well).

I'm also thinking about running a one shot for a couple friends and their kids (with my kids as well). A friend ran the Force & Destiny beginner box for his two kids. He said they absolutely loved it, and picked up the dice mechanic super-quick. Of course, now they've had a taste.....
