CADave asked me, in preparation to the Star Wars campaign I'm going to run, which book he should get. He couched this as which game am I running and he'll get the same book.
I told him I'm running an EotE game, but to look through the races and classes in all three, and pick the book that appeals to him the most, as all the game mechanics he'll need are already there (the only exception being obligation).
That's kind of a nice thing. If a player REALLY wants to play droids (or whatever), grab the appropriate book, and he or she will have everything needed.
I'm not going to begrudge FFG for wanting to make a profit. They are, after all, a business. And a business that probably spent a comparative arm and a leg for the SW license to begin with.
Is there a source for that story as to why there are no PDFs?

No source, but the gist of it as I understand it was that the license for the video games given to EA was too broadly worded (something to the tune of "all electronic games" or some such thing.

Is there a source for that story as to why there are no PDFs? A recommendation in addition to buying the book, I highly recommend OggDude's character generator. It's super useful, and also features many of the NPC Species for players to play. Why restrict yourself after all?

Is there a source for that story as to why there are no PDFs? Having played star wars for a long time. I have heard it explained on the Order66 podcast back in the D20 days. One of the Devs explained it. It is an old license from pre PDF days. Back when Lucas Arts had all the rights to star wars electronic gaming. I also talked to Sam Stewart and he pretty much confirmed it is the same license they have. Though he can't get into specifics.
