Just reminded of this thread by chronovore 's necromantic mage, and I'm thinking Droit a Signure, does it happen in your fantasy games? Or is it too close to Rape? What the heck is that? Google thinks it's Corsican. fredrix is referring to "Droit du signuere" - it's french. It means the Lord of the land gets to sleep with a common/subordinate woman the night before her wedding. In Latin: "jus primae noctis"

Well, if you are playing a game that is so realistic that it includes that law, perhaps you should be realistic about how you percieve it. Imagine for a moment you are a commoner with no chance of rising in your station. Like most parents since the beginning of time, you want what is best for your kids. So would you rather have royal babies who may get looked after (as well as yourself as the mother), or not? Even for the husband to be this is a move up the social ladder.
Not to be that guy, but women were basicly owned in the middle ages. The concept of rape did not apply to your husband (or lord in this case). It didn't matter what you wanted. You likely had no say in the whole marriage to begin with. Its ugly by today's standards for sure and should not be used in a game that will be judged by today's standards. This means it should not be used in most games. When most people play fantasy they don't want history with all its ugliness. For reasons similar to why we fade to black, no one wants to talk about if 'jus primate noctis' is rape or acceptable. Once the word rape has been said or thought, there is a major social stigma. Most gamers certainly don't need more stigma coming their way.
