An interesting idea, the Dungeon Masters Guild. Looks like they want to try and make money this time instead of just losing control of their property. Anything sold with the DMG license will be sold through their official store front and they take a 50% cut.
But there's also a full OGL license, you just don't get to sell through their store front or lose half your revenue.
I wonder what people would do if a 5e pathfinder update happened...

I'm super excited for these new developments, it means people like me who've dreamed of making even $1 from my adventures might actually get that $1!!
Additionally unless I'm mistaken I think you're free to sell your stuff anywhere you'd like, the only time it HAS to be on DMGuild is if you are using their actual settings/IP whatever.
I'm pretty stoked, I'm workin on an adventure for The DMGuild at the moment actually lol!

That is correct. If you limit yourself to using WotC content found in the SRD alone, you can sell your product wherever you like. Just make sure you understand and follow the OGL. If you use WotC content not in the SRD, from Forgotten Realms, you can only release your work through the Dungeon Masters Guild. You cannot use WotC content at all, in either case, from outside of the SRD or Forgotten Realms. ~~~~~ Note: I *think* I read something yesterday that the Dungeon Masters Guild allows all the content from the core books, not just the SRD, but I can't find it this morning. Thus my reply limits itself to the SRD. If I can find what I think I read, I'll update my reply.

Chris Perkins has tweeted that it will be all settings, and other peoples setting "should" be allowed onto the DMGuild eventually to. I think they are going to slowly allow more and more stuff once it starts to take off.

Yup, that's what I've read too, but right now it's just the Realms.

Cough, we'll see... cough... maybe Ravenloft will be added soon,... cough. All foreshadowing aside this is interesting to say the least. I will ask Chris for further details when I see him in a couple of months. All told, I like the development thus far and we'll see what the future holds!

Yep, Ravenloft is now legal as of March 15th. Or maybe March 4th, but whatever. I saw some Fraternity of Shadows stuff pop up on there. Hopefully it was actually posted by the people who run the site. One of the head organizers of Adventurers League content is a huge Dark Sun fan, so maybe we can expect that in the future.

Now that I've had the opportunity to dig through it in some detail, I found that there is a LOT of stuff from the core books that has been left out of the SRD. Spells, monsters, items, class-specific options, are all pared-down versions of what you'll get from the actual books.
That's not a complaint, just an observation.

Some of those things were an accident. Like Eldritch Blast missing when it's referenced several times in the Warlock stuff. A lot of other stuff was left out on purpose, to avoid giving away the store like the 3e version. The idea was to show just enough to see how to build your own stuff.
