Again... well played. But there will be NO aspects in my "Potterfudge" game (yes, it's set in the wizarding world of Harry Potter). And need I remind you that Fate was originally an acronym which stood for "Fudge Adventures in Tabletop Entertainment"? After your presumed rebuttal we should probably get back on topic. It may have been originally called that, but times change, and things grow beyond the reliance of things of yore. It has evolved beyond the reliance upon fudge, it grew beyond that quite some time ago, and now it is its own thing. Wonderful aspects and all. On topic...any rule on allowable playbooks?

So once a PbP host is chosen (*cough*rpol.net*cough*), it would be great for me if there were some remedial threads/sessions/whatever to, eh, bring me into the fold.

Right. As it looks like I'll be running the game (razzle frazzle frazzle) I'll go check out this rpol.net thing. I might lean on your for advice there Probie Tim. I'll cap the players at six for now, in the order people responded: joecrakfredrixForresstProbie TimshadrackginaAs for your question joecrak, I'll limit the playbooks to the "official" ones: The Angel, The Chosen, The Fae, The Ghost, The Ghoul, The Hollow, The Infernal, The Mortal, The Queen, The Selkie, The Serpentine, The Vampire, The Werewolf, and The Witch. If there's something else you really want to play, point me towards it and I'll check it out. I've setup a Google Drive folder here with copies of the Skins and player reference sheets. Things are pretty easy to jump into Probie Tim; just pretend to be the most horrible, selfish, self-centered person imaginable. In other words, a normal teenager.

That all said, Probie Tim You should avoid the Angel. It's very different than most of the playbooks. I'm so torn between trying The Infernal, or playning one of my faves in The Mortal or The Queen. Unless I can play The Rusalka

That all said, Probie Tim You should avoid the Angel. It's very different than most of the playbooks. Good point. The Angel is very different from the other Skins, and isn't great for a new player. The Chosen is also one of my least favorite Skins, and I would prefer if people stayed away from that one. To help the newer players out, while the Skins actually are literal monsters, they are also metaphors for an aspect of teenage life. For example, The Werewolf is a shape-changing werewolf, but is also the kid who has issues with authority. Reading the "Playing the [Skin]" section of the Skins really helps get a feel for what each one is about.

Alright. I've set up a game on RPoL.net. It's called "Happy Jacks Monsterhearts" because I couldn't think of a catchier title. The setting will also be determined as people are picking Skins and going through their Backstory as part of character creation. If you don't have an RPoL.net account yet, you'll need to go make one.
Let's get this sexy teenage monster party started! Woo!

If someone ends up dropping out, or you want more, sometimes after the end of March, give me a holler. I'll play into whatever gap is left by the other PCs if so.

I must say, at first viewing this Rpol site is...visually lacking.

I'll see how things go for a bit first tomes. And if someone drops out or I find I have a good handle on running a PbP with more people, I'll open up more slots. RPol.net is a bit visually lacking, isn't it joecrak? Oh well. All the more encouragement to use your imagination. Right. I have an RPoL.net question for Probie Tim and fredrix. Is it possible to change a character's name after I've added them as a player? joecrak has sent me a private message on RPoL.net and I'm trying to add him as a player. However, I can't do so unless I assign him a character by entering a name in the "assign a new character" text field. I doubt he's chosen a character name yet, let alone a Skin, so it seems premature to assign him a character name. If I give him a name now, is it possible for me or him to change it later? Character and setting creation in Monsterhearts is really something that I feel needs to be done as a group. Everyone contributes ideas, they morph and grow, and come out being better than what they originally started as. Group character and setting creation also helps ensure that everyone is on the same page about the tone and expectations of the game. I don't want people making their characters in a vacuum. Is that possible to do on RPoL.net? Or does that need to happen here?

I'm not familiar wit Rpol, but I think the character discussion would best happen here. We can speak as "ourselves" here, and then maybe join RPOL with our character names already decided.
For example, though I've not looked at the skins yet, the idea of playing the Selkie attracts me as they are a "local" monster. I've not made up my mind yet though.
Any thoughts on gender?

Ooh. Selkies are a "local" monster for you fredrix? That's pretty cool. The Selkie is a metaphor for being an outsider, like a foreign exchange student if you want. You're encouraged to misunderstand things, causing trouble, and to be motivated by homesickness. It's also a good example of why I prefer to do this as a group. Someone picking The Selkie means there needs to be a large body of water, possibly an ocean, nearby. The setting for the game could be a beachfront town, now. We'll continue character and setting discussion here in the HJ forum as suggested. To answer your question on gender fredrix, anything is fine with me; play whatever gender character you'd like to. It is worth noting that Monsterhearts has a fair amount of queer content. You, the player, don't have the right to say your character isn't turned on by someone. If the dice say someone successfully turns your character on, then your character is turned on, regardless of the other character's gender or your character's sexual preference. A big part of Monsterhearts is not being in control of your character's feelings, just like a real teenager. But you always have full control over what your character does. You can't say your character isn't turned on, but you can (and should) say how they react. Even if it's to say your character keeps a blank face and walks away.
