I'd like to go with my fave skin, I think, The Mortal. If that works for everyone... And apologies for the tardy, work sucked me in with no days off until tomorrow. I'll set up my account and play catch-up then. All of the yes. It's my favorite. Wreak havoc.

Right now I'm thinking ghoul or hollow. Bad for newbs? Good? I think Ghoul is a great easy one to go to. Hollow i ran for once, but if you got an idea after reading the book, run with it!

I'll set up my account and play catch-up then. Oh crap, I'm here, I'm here... Oooh! A Mortal. Time to get all creepily codependent up in here! Seriously, don't sweat the tardiness. Part of the reason I'm starting this play-by-post is that real life is leaving me very little in the way of gaming time, or even just free time. So we've got a Rusalka, a Selkie, a Serpentine, and a Mortal. Staying down towards the lower half of the alphabet, I see. We also have two water themed Skins, so that affluent island town in the northeast seems really appropriate. Any of the Skins catch your eye shadrack? There's more than enough for everyone to play a different one, you if you or Probie Tim want to play something that's already been taken, it's cool to double up. Provided the other player is cool with there being another one, of course.

Oops. I got ninjaed. Both the Ghoul and the Hollow are pretty cool shadrack. The Ghoul is the obsessed with something while the Hollow doesn't know who or what they are. Have you read the Ghoul's Sex Move? It can get pretty intense as it encourages you to play a stalker. That one can really push boundaries and make people uncomfortable, which is not an attempt to dissuade you from playing it, mind. I think it's just something for everyone to be aware of.

i might consider joining if you still have Room. i am considering taking up the Fae, and playing the small and innocently endearing Nymph. the "Cutesey Goodie Goodie Doll" in a primarily emo goth party. Gothic Lolita Fashion, Wealthy, Cosplayer, obsessed with Anime, loves sweets, easy to trick or persuade, has an easy time endearing others towards herself. generally very charitable and very driven to enjoying herself and keeping others happy.

Cool. Now we're just waiting on Probie Tim to pick his Skin, and then we can get started with formal character creation. In the meantime, how about a quick primer of the Basic Moves, yeah? Manipulate an NPCThis is how you convince an NPC to do something. You need to give them a reason to comply with your wishes though, which could be offering them something they want, threatening them, or just pointing out the benefits of them doing what you say. A full success means the NPC will do what you say. A partial success means you learn what it will take to get them to comply with your wishes; meet those requirements and the NPC will do what you want. Shut Someone DownThis is how you chip away at the power other people have over you, or attack them socially. On a full success, you can give them a Condition, force them to lose a bit of social power over you, or gain a pit of social power over them. A partial success means you both lose some social power on each other, or you give each other a Condition. Basically, on a full success you make them look bad, but on a partial success you look bad in the process. Conditions can represent both physical and mental states of being ( scarred, dazed, drained, etc.), but can also represent public perception ( slut, teacher's pet, liar, etc.). Giving someone a Condition allows you to decide how other people see that person, and you can give them whatever Condition you feel is appropriate. Hold SteadyThis move is not usually something you intentionally trigger. Instead, it's triggered by your character building up the nerve to carry through on a dangerous or scary action, or standing up to a tense situation. Sneaking money out of your mom's purse while she's right there in the other room, shoulding through the crowd to ask the lacrosse captain out, or facing a rampaging werewolf would all probably trigger this move. On a full success you do what you set out to do and get a bit of info about what's going on, remove a Condition, or get a small mechanical buff. On a partial success you can either do what you set out to do, or get a benefit at a cost. Lash Out PhysicallyThis is the move that triggers when you intend to do physical harm to someone. Pushing someone up against a locker to scare them or bully them into doing what you want wouldn't trigger this move, as injury isn't your primary goal. This move is for when you simply want to physically hurt someone. On a full success you do harm and then can either do a lot of harm, get some social power over them, or frighten them a bit. On a partial success you hurt them, but they get a bit of social power over you, can hurt you a little, or you enter your Darkest Self; your choice. Run AwayThis is the move that triggers when you want to get away from something for whatever reason. It doesn't take a lot of harm to kill someone, and no one wants to stand around when they're being bullied or humiliated. On a full success, you're gone. On a partial success you get away, but have to chose between causing a big scene as you leave, ending up in a worse situation, or giving someone involved some social power over you. Gaze Into the AbyssBasically, this is the "find things out" or "know things" move. You need to do something to trigger it, like zoning out to drudge metal, jabbing a pen into your thigh, getting high, staring into a mirror, or even something normal like sitting in a quiet place and collecting your thoughts. On a full success you get some information, get shown a path of action, or clear a Condition. On a partial success, you have to choose between partial information, or clear information at a cost. This move works best when you have a question in mind when triggering it. Being a teenager is weird and confusing, and this move often gives partial information to reflect that. Apart from trigger this move and hoping for the best, the only way to get accurate information about something is to go find things out for yourself by getting involved. Or by asking someone who is involved, and hoping they don't lie to you. Turn Someone OnI've saved this one for last, as it's sort of about sex and makes people wary. Basically, you do something to get another character all hot and bothered, just like the name of the move says. On a full success, you get under their skin and gain some social power over them. On a partial success, the other person chooses to either give into your advances, promise you something, of give you some social power. Many moves have the player who triggered them making the choices, but Turn Someone On is an exception. The other person always gets to decide how their character reacts, making it completely impossible to force someone to have sex with you. This move is you putting it out there and hoping the other person reacts the way you want them to, but there's no guarantee. Right, that was fairly long.

I'll add you to the list of alts ilina. If things go well, and I feel like I can handle more than six players at a time, I will open up more slots. I've found it difficult to play a "goodie goodie" character in Monsterhearts, at least unless you have ulterior motives.

the Nymph/Fae has the Ulterior motive of making friends to fulfill her fantasy of becoming an empress. because she wants to be loved by all and worshipped like a goddess.

Though, having never done this before, I have no idea how tricky it will be. God forbid all six of the current PCs run off in different directions right from the get go.

Everyone in the office just stared at me because I literally LOLed at that one. Nice. Once everyone has picked a Skin, should we shift the character creation conversation over to the RPoL.net site? Or keep things here until play actually starts?
