I could totally play the vampire. That was my first thought, but I figured it might be a bit cliche, heh.

Nah. Play whatever you think is cool. We won't judge. Much. The default assumption in Monsterhearts is that all the characters can pass as normal high school student regardless of what they actually are. So if you do go with the Vampire, you're free to come up with whatever explanation you want about how you're able to move around in sunlight. A magical piece of jewelry, a spell, or maybe vampires aren't actually affected by the sun in this setting. Yes, you could even sparkle if you want to. But we'll all judge you if you go that route.

all you need for a Vampire to walk in sunlight, is application of really good sunblock. or you could go the Nyxad/Drow route where sunlight simply gives you headaches, dizziness and nausea.

My first Monsterheart was a ghoul. That was supes fun. First I stabbed a Queen's favourite in the eye. Then the queen was going to try to drown me in the swamp but then I tried to give the guy who was taking me to the swamp a handy but then I was bad at being sexy.
We didn't play much after that but I was gonna eat a hobo.
Anyway, if you'd like to do a serpentine, it's cool, we can both be serpentines too. My family is in hiding from the mob or possibly the cops or both, so you can't also be a mobster kid otherwise we'll spend the whole game just trying to extort each other.

I snort-laughed remembering that and nearly choked on my drink. Since Forresst is cool with there being another snake person around, if you can come up with a different kind of "family" from hers Probie Tim, go ahead and pick the Serpentine as well.

Nice character portrait joecrak. I foresee a lot of Turning Someone On with that Hot 2. Everyone, I've made, and have been updating, character sheets on RPoL.net for your characters. It's just text, but it should contain all the relevant info about your characters, and should be editable. Yuup. Just need to quickly seduce some people so i can shift pain to them.

You know, I think I'm going to go forth with the Vampire. As to the question how vampires can walk around during the day? With a tip of the hat to 1st edition V:tM, how about as long as they've fed they can handle the sunlight? It's only when they're out of blood that the sun burns their shit up.
Does that work?

That totally works Probie Tim. And as joecrak said, as THE Vampire, you have final say in all matters of vampire lore. All the players do over their respective monsters. You don't track blood at all like in V:tR though, so it'll be on you to determine how long you can go between feedings. However, expect me to say "Yeah. You're feeling hungry, and the sunlight is starting to burn." when you start getting those 6- rolls. Heh heh heh.

I am totally fine with that. So, with that said, I am officially taking the Vampire, and I will put together my character as best I can. I'll look to you all to help me out if I make any obviously glaring mistakes or missteps.

Don't sweat it Probie Tim. I feel it's hard to make mistakes when making a Monsterhearts character, as the moves aren't really balanced in the traditional sense, but are mostly just ways to dig your character deeper into trouble. The Vampire's high stats are Hot and Cold, making you good at manipulating people, undermining their social power, and keeping your cool under pressure. But the low stats are Volatile and Dark, meaning you'll have a hard time dealing with trouble if things get physical and you're not that great at gathering info. You can add 1 to one of your four stats. Bumping Hot or Cold up to 2 makes you a really powerful manipulator, while bumping Volatile to 0 makes you less crappy in physical fights and escapes. For moves, Hypnotic could be a way to deal with physical trouble; as long as your assailant has no Strings on you, you could hypnotize them into leaving you alone. Or into fighting for you. Or being your minion. Marked for the Hunt let's you keep tabs on the people you've fed from, either to keep them safe or for more nefarious purposes. It's a way to get around a low Dark score. The Feeding rewards you for feeding on as many different people as possible. It also make you more like a traditional vampire, as you can heal harm and buff your rolls a bit. You could also rack up a huge body count with this one. Invited puts a possibly hefty limitation on you, but rewards you with Strings for your trouble. Inescapable encourages you to be an asshole and push people away so you can then demand they stay put and suffer more abuse. Cold as Ice makes you great at Shutting Someone Down, which is how you force them to lose Strings on you. A good combo with Hypnotic. Your Sex Move actually encourages you NOT to have sex. You get rewarded for constantly stringing people along sexually, but lose your power over them if you do give in. Phew. How about you shadrack? Have you picked your moves for your Hollow? How about your Serpentine Forresst?

Ok so:
Arabella Scipio sleek w/hypnotic eyes true form: snake hair and forked tongue 1 hot 1 cold 0 volatile -1 dark
Extra move: Patience is a Virtue
Just moved here not too long ago. My family isn't terribly interested in social gatherings but they've gone about buying up some property around the joint. We're obviously fairly wealthy as a family, but quiet... you know?

I suppose political clout is closest to true, I mean, they're not trying to be president but they are trying to put that upstart Vecchio family back in their place right?

All right. Let's give this a shot.
Tomas Pontailler
Hot: 2 Cold: 1 Volatile: -1 Dark: -1
Vampire moves: Hypnotic, Marked for the Hunt
The Pontaillers are a family of old money and means in the area. Most are vampires. Tomas is their youngest son (although this is his third run as "youngest son", as he was turned some time ago but just looks young). As with all the Pontaillers, Tomas can survive sunlight if he is well fed and takes some minor precautions (long sleeves, sunglasses, hoodie/hat, etc.)
Is there anything I'm missing? Anything off or not-quite-right?
