Hi.
Can anyone tell me how to calculate speed on a battle mat without a grid? Does anyone have an easy conversion for Speed in cm on the mat?

As long as everyone is moving the same speeds and measuring the same distances relatively you should be fine.
However if you want to just figure out 2.5 cm per inch.

0.5 cm should be one foot if one inch is 5 feet.
Math is hard.

0.5 cm should be one foot if one inch is 5 feet. Math is hard. The think is if you just want to round off to 2 or 3 cm you can. As long as the measurements are consistent you should be fine.

Then speed /2 in cm should do nicely. But also as long as all movement is consistent you can use any measurement as you like. Take /10 for a smaller map and /1 for a close up.

Then speed /2 in cm should do nicely. So Speed 30 is 15 centimeters on a normal map? Thanks. :-)

If you're a little bit crafty, you can make move strings. I take a little bead, and some yarn, and put the bead at one side. Then I measure out the cm for a character's move speed (you guys figured this part out already) and knot a second bead there, so then I can slide the beads around to check distances!
