I'm fortunate, my players get the concept. And they're pretty good at it. Remember, two months of weekly sessions just in *prep* for this game! While creating them, we thought in terms of "how can we compel this?" and "how can you tag it?"
I think it'll just take some practice. We discussed it a lot after the last session, and we'll keep the lines of communication.

I've been running a fantasy game for my sister and her family, using Strands of Fate. We've played about six sessions over the last two months, and the players and I are JUST starting to get the hang of compelling aspects. We've had to do some tweaking of aspects along the way, and I'm expecting more tweaking to come.
Of course it doesn't help that everyone was trained on classic DnD. The switch to Fate was pretty abrupt, but very well received.
So keep at it mate. It does get easier, I promise!

Session 2 of the game has gone well. One player altered an aspect, and I think it's helped. We got more compels and more tags in this one.
It's really being a challenge for me, trying to GM in a more open, collaborative way. A particular player came up with a really (I thought) stupid idea, that annoyed the crap out of me. I was immediately going to shut it down, on reflex, but I caught myself, and let her go with it.
Turns out to have been brilliant. We've created a whole sub-plot that didn't exist, based on what she decided to do, And it spawned some other issues later, and basically just made a beautiful mess for the PCs that will be a blast to deal with!
And I'm pleased to say that I ran the last session with essentially no prep. I'm trying to get spontaneous, hold my ideas lightly, and run where the players lead. It worked pretty well last time... so we'll see how it keeps up!

I find that with Fate specifically prep beyond some vague ideas is useless since the players have so much input on the game world. You can throw scenes and props at them, but nothing is ever going to be even close to what you might have imagined because the lack of restrictions gives them a sandbox regardless of what you do.

Yeah, that's what I'm *hoping* for... unfortunately, at present, they're still flexing their muscles in terms of being able to influence the story. But based on some things I read recently, I'm trying to improvise a lot more of my adventure anyway. So far, it's actually worked pretty well. And the best part is, it means *very* little GM prep between sessions! Last night's session was good. One or two players still sort of have the "stand around" problem, but we're working on it, and everyone got to do *something* cool last night. The story is progressing, and I think everyone is starting to get into it. We're having to miss next week's session, on account of me being on vacation, but I think it's good, because the party split up for a few hours, and some are doing their own things, so it'll give us time to deal with those over email.

Just FYI.. A PC in my game last night BROKE THE THIRD LAW OF MAGIC. ON PURPOSE. USING IT ON ANOTHER PC. It's about to get crazy all up in here! I'm so psyched! Seriously, this one act has given me an idea that will spin through not only this story arc, but the next one... and quite possibly the one after that. I love my group. --Pukka Tukka

Joke of the night, in last night's session: Player 1 (in character): So, how does this Sight of your work? I mean, from what you guys described, it's useful but... complicated, sort of. Player 2 (in character): Yeah, the Sight is not always... good. Player 3 (in character): The Sight comes with a price. Player 4: Yeah. 1 Refresh. ;D She got a Fate point for making me laugh so hard. --Pukka Tukka
