Bill, The character from Alpha Flight that you're thinking of was Box. I KNEW there was someone from Alpha Flight like this!

How much setting material in in SW Rifts?
This sounds ridiculous enough to get me interested :-)

Not a TON.... It details the Castle, and the Tomorrow Legion, as those are brand new for the SW edition. It gives a little bit of history (mostly about the Siege of Tolkeen) that lead up to the current state of affairs.

I'm not familiar with the Rifts setting, so it was great to hear session zero and get some background. Hearing the questions and discussions about some of the SW core rules, I kept thinking, "where the bell is JiB when you need him?

It's the heavy metal attitude of 40K without all the Grim Darkness. I mean, Glitter Boys, for crying out loud! ... Sorry. I still want to play one in a game some day. (Curse you, Stu.) Save

Having met the creator on a few occasions, and being immersed in a gamer culture who took this shit way too seriously for the last couple decades, I can assure you that the Douglas Adams absurdity of the setting, while its best feature, is completely unintentional.

I have played in a Rifts game before. I had a great time playing a Dogboy (Girl). I was part of the Kickstarter for this game. I am waiting for my books to show up. I ran a Savage Worlds campaign in the Slipstream universe. I did not do too good a job with it, but it was my first time GMing. I am looking forward to watching this podcast. I just wish I could watch in real time but I will be asleep when this is on. I hope it is a good as it can be. Good Luck.

So what you're saying is, that this is NOT the greatest game in the world. No. This is just a tribute. Hell, when Dave (right?) was talking about how the refugees from the Siege of Tolkeen arrived at Castle Refuge, asking for help in defeating the Coalition, I immediately thought to myself: Well, those there dwarves, They looked at each other. And THEY SAID: "Okay." And the team-up born on that very day It just so happened to be The best one in the world The best team-up in the world...

Heh heh! I've bought some Palladium product in my time, including the hardback Rifts Ultimate Edition (why I sold it on I'll never know), I think if I met Kevin Siembieda, I'd give him a big damned hug. Because as polarising as he and Palladium's products can be, I think that the RPG scene would be... well, lesser, somehow, for their absence.
