So far here is what I got for places. One thing is I can make up stuff on the fly (improv skills work for me) but I suck at names for places, as you will see below.
City name is Kosaten. Even though there is another area named this, I didn't realize it before and now the name has stuck with the people getting ready to play.
Monkey Discipline - Scorpion brothel that is also a saki house. Wild times here though oddly enough mostly populated by non-scorpions.
Calm Grasshopper - Lion tea House. Bard’s recite various glorious battles of Life’s history. Tea is sipped. Games of strategy are played. The tea itself is the best and most varied in the city.
The Stables - Not only the best but some would say the only place to buy horses. Located in the Unicorn quarter.
Geisha House - Also in Scorpion lands, this house is used for a samurai to drop his face, so to speak. Sometimes quietly frequented by Lion clan members who do not want to be seen in a Geisha house in the Lion Quarter. First adventure will deal with a blackmailed Lion samurai who kills his blackmailer, who listened to things said here.
Lion Barracks - Everything looks like barracks that houses people, including commoners. IF the Lions take over the city, the barracks will be used for reinforcements. Commented here so that if anyone makes note of it among the PCs.

Unless the brothel / Sake house is a deliberate Scorpion jab at the Monkey Clan. Maybe the proprietor is a renowned duelist who lost their first duel to a Monkey samurai and has never let it go.

You might want to look at the Mimura the village of promise supplement for one of the older editions.

Check out Musha Shugyo, its an L5R fanzine I was a part of several years ago and we had one section that concentrated on a city we were building location by location. In the 5th issue our editor, who used us to become an employee of AEG, basically threw his own city into the magazine. Lots of info there.

Thank you, Sir Guido. I will check that out... ...holy shit there is a bunch of stuff there. OK, I will definitely be reading this. Thank you. It was easily one of my favorite moments in my gaming career. I loved every moment of working on that magazine. It was seriously a labor of love. I want to do it again so badly. I'm even fine with doing something system agnostic. I think with all the great minds we have here on the forums we could put out something fantastic. I've tried a few times to get something started and people never seem to pick up on it. Back when I was working on Musha Shugyo I spent a ton of time working on articles. The article I did on the Kaiu wall took three months to research and write. I researched previous canon material, I researched feudal building techniques, the great wall, etc. Spent time thinking about how a tactical mind would spread out his or her troops for maximum effectiveness, etc. I miss it.
