Dear Forum Users,
I really hate forum rules. I'd rather just have people come on the forum, behave decently and get on with my life. But that's not working. So I've been mulling over what to do about it.
I don't want this forum to become the dirt run behind my garage (for clarity, that's where my dogs crap -- they actually crap everywhere, but I'm trying to make a point). This is a place for people to come, exchange ideas, talk about stuff they love, triumphs of gaming, failures, way to improve, etc.
You'll notice I didn't include "take a crap on someone else's fun" or "insult fellow gamers." This stuff needs to stop.
When I see multiple threads degenerate into arguments about arguing, I have to wonder how that affects the value of this forum as part of the larger community.
I've tried the laissez faire approach, and as much as it pains my libertarian heart, it's not working.
So now I'm going full Stalin.
For those that want actual rules, here ya go. Be warned, I'm the GM of this forum, so rules lawyering will be met with Stalin-like efficiency.
1. Don't insult people. Don't call them names. Don't comment on someone personally, be it their intelligence, personality, psychological profile, shape, size, gender or any other attribute that could be construed as bullying or insulting. If something you're about to write causes you to wonder if you might be breaking this rule, you are. Delete it.
2. If you have nothing but negative things to say in a thread, stay out of the thread. Someone's talking about a FATE hack and you hate FATE, move on to the next thread. Some people really like pineapple on their pizza. I find these people fucking crazy; but hey, I can always not eat their pizza. But NO ONE likes pizza with pineapple and piss on it, and when I piss on their pizza because it has pineapple on it, now there's a pizza no one wants to eat. Let's make sure there's less piss on our forum pizza. Preferably none.
I think that's enough rules. Don't you?
Because I don't read every thread, I would ask people to use the reporting function if they see something that's breaking the above-mentioned rules. When I get time, I'll check it and see if I agree. If I do, I'll do one of three things:
PM the offender.
Suspend the offender's account.
Ban the offender.
I'll probably do them in that order, but I may just ban people if they get shitty with me. Stalin.
I'll also do the same to people I feel are abusing the reporting function (because I know how this stuff goes).
So now I'm going to clear out the "reported posts" list. Everyone starts with a clean slate. The red banners are flying, comrades! Rejoice!
Sincerely,
Uncle Joe
