With JackerCon 12 almost over its time to look ahead. We are planning on JackerCon 13 to be from the 21st June to the 5th July, its a little longer than others have been but should give opportunity for more games. The next con is currently theme-less. But fear not I have created a poll, so you can choose over the next couple of weeks. feel free to add suggestions. Please remember the theme is loose and optional the current choices could be anything from: - anti-heroes or an over abundance of heroes,
- pbta or anything apoc,
- religion / cults or a god complex,
- trading / farming or the establishing of a civilization.
- steal and plagiarize a setting / story. or have your players deal with cylons/doplegangers and impostors.
The poll is set to last 2 weeks, and you can select 2 options. to give GM's choosing to work with the theme the most amount of time to plan.

PbtA gets a bullet point AND a theme reference, but old-school games aren't even mentioned. ARE YOU TRYING TO OFFEND ME, PRIVATE PYLE!?

I like those dates. I might actually have time then.
Themes that are open to broad interpretation are great. But, keep you pbta out of my choc-apoc.

There is a bullet point for each theme, and it was one suggested to me due to the variety of games that can be played pbta. The theme also includes anything apocalyptic. And i honestly didn't expect it to win, just think of it as padding

Excited for the next Jackercon! And I would like to run something, though I haven't GMed a game over video chat in a while. I'd ask for loads of help in planning, because I would need it. But if we do anti-heroes I would love to do a VTM Antitribu version of The Dirty Dozen or Suicide Squad, and if we go apocalypse (though it looks unlikely), this could be the kick in the pants I need to figure out how to do a post-apocalyptic version of Pendragon.

My current thought is to run Microscope one weekend with a group of players and make a world. Then the following weekend run a game in that world.

Im just thinking if i should ignore theme, tweak my game to fit theme or start planning another new game. Or run two.
I think it depends which theme wins out.

From the Microscope AP, the game sounds like this incredibly useful world-building tool, and fun to boot. Running it first and then a game based on the resulting world sounds like a great way to better cultivate player engagement, too. If you decide to go in this direction, let me know. I'd love to play.

I want to see what games come out of a anti-hero theme. And would love playing in them. Gming one may be hard as the PC's may be unpredictable as anti-heros like to do.
But religion and messiah complex would be easier for me to gm. And just as interesting.

I've often thought that playing a character convinced either that he/she is a god or that he/she is the scion or avatar of one would make for a really fascinating story. I haven't quite figured out how to do it without feeling as if my character would be stealing the spotlight, though.
Maybe if all the other characters were also under the same delusion, it could devolve into a Highlander thing. "There can only be one heir to the mantle of Ares!" Or something like that.

This entire discussion is why I encourage there to be a theme (be it ever so loosely tied)... And Probie Tim I'm running Mad Max : Anchorage After the Flood in GURPS (that's pretty Old School). And you could run a game based around this guy... The oldest of old school anti-heroes! I like having a theme title that immediately resonates (for some of us) hence "Everybody Gets to Be a Ninja!" "Once More Unto the Breach" "In Space No One Can..." "We Shall Not Go Gently Into that Good Night!" so my thoughts for this one (and I'm very ready to throw the final result/decision upon the clamoring masses) is to call it Jackercon XIII "We Don't Need Another Hero" To me that immediately resonates with post-apocalyptic games, anti-heroes, Thunderdome style battles, etc...but again whatever connection you create is great. Unlike science there are no wrong answers regarding game suggestions. But as a writer my biggest terror is the blank page. Our Warren game with fredrix this morning was wonderful and my amazing Rabbit was a scarred, haggard, lean survivor with canabalistic proclivities. All because I saw the name Nibbles as a suggestion on my player sheet. Love those PbtA games!

Jackercon XIII "We Don't Need Another Hero" I have this beautiful vision of a sequel to the TFtFV game, where instead of all Harrison Ford roles, instead it's all Tina Turner.... /heads off to IMDB to see if this is even feasible...
