The new Lost in Space reboot on Netflix.
I'm two episodes in and so far I like it. I definitely suggest checking it out, even if you're not a fan of the original.
At first I wasn't sure what to think about the Robot being an alien AI, but there's a whole meta-plot around that and I'm ok with it now seeing how it's coming together. It looks like what the Robot is and where it came from is going to be the story arc for season 1. Or at least a big part of it.
There's some tension in the Robinson family that the original series would never have done, and it changes the dynamic. Basically John and Maureen are not exactly a happily married couple. It complicates the daily fight for survival on an alien world.
Don West and Dr. Smith don't show up until late in episode 1, and that's ok. They're in there, and it's a good setup for the two not really liking each other at all (much like the original series).
So, whether you're a fan of the original or the movie or not, I say give it a watch if you have Netflix.

So, whether you're a fan of the original or the movie or not, I say give it a watch if you have Netflix. I am torn. Much of it is brilliant. I love the cast, especially Maureen and Will, and it’s great to have Maureen as the leading scientist. I love the relatively hard science. But it makes me think, “why did they waste all this talent on a reboot of Lost in Space, when they could be adapting Seveneves.?”

I want a reboot of Blake’s 7. Simple. Aaron I wrote a fan-fic “next-gen” B7 once. Main protagonist was a young historian who gets to travel to Earth with friends on the occassion of the State Funeral of Imperator Servalan. Much shenanigans later (including cage-fighting, and negotiating Federation bureaucracy to get a Library ticket, they meet an aged consort of the Imperator in one of Servalan’s palaces. His name is Avon, and he’s been building a new Liberator, with an AI called Laotse. In fact the palace IS the new Liberator.

I have been rewatching (or watching for the first time missed episodes of) Andromeda. The Gene Roddenberry based sci-fi series from the early 2000s. While nowhere near perfect, it is actually fairly good and fun to watch. While it has the same utopian dreams as Star Trek, it presents them in a much more realist manner. They try a lot of ideas, and many of them fall flat, they had 2 time travel episodes in the first season. Unlike most Star Trek, the primary conflict of most episodes is between the main characters and how they each deal with the problem of the week. Even within the first season they have set up several long term plot lines: the Nietzschian conflicts, the Magogg invasions, attempting to rebuild the Commonwealth, the mysterious past of one of the main characters. They also deal with philosophical issues such as the personhood of AI, or the ethics of the genetically engineered.

This is cute... apparently there was a pitch to do a Lost in Space animated series in 2003. Here's a rough-up of what it may have looked like. www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_9opZTbbv4I'd have watched that!

The style reminds me of Chuck Jones. Especially with Will and Penny.

JUST started watching BANSHEE, as it's finally come to Japan's Amazon Prime streaming service.
I REALLY LIKE IT. It's pulpy and unrealistic, and there is NO REASON the protagonists and Big Bads shouldn't just kill each other several times in the first four episodes, so I assume their world is running under RDL's Drama System…
