i know. Random Stats are not my thing, but i find this version of the game to be simpler than whitebox and easier to access. i also like the cleaner formatting and use of Ascending Armor class without consulting a chart. all the stats are given weight and it literally tells you which stats do not have enough value to be worth dumping. it also introduces the switch any pair mechanic that is associated with later retroclones and simplified encumbrance based on bodyweight. all i would need to do is tack on 2nd edition style point buy and it becomes quite a wonderful system.

The RC is... awesome. It's the ultimate work in the "basic" D&D line. Everything you need, all in one tome.

But wait. Doesn't it still have descending AC?

It does; but it also introduces THAC0. I think ilina meant "descending armor class without consulting a chart".

Whoah... just had a Rolemaster flashback...
How 'bout a different table for each weapon? A crit chart for each type of damage? A chart for fumbles for each type of damage? A chart for physical maneuvers? A chart for--
(And then the nice men in the white suits come and carry a still ranting Erica away to her rubber-walled home away from home...)

True, but it could be a hassle keeping it all straight.
And I don't want to derail this thread any more than I already have. We can talk Rolemaster in some other more appropriate forum.

Depending on the version, Rolemaster would be welcomed in another thread in this sub-forum with open arms.

Which one? Not that I'm all that eager to relive my Rolemaster/Spacemaster/MERP days, but I don't see a Rolemaster forum here.

Yeah, it's over... there somewhere. But seriously, we don't have a "System Specific: non-specific other RPGs" forum. Older version RM/SM/MERP discussions should go here, in OSR Central, but newer version RM/SM/HARP discussions don't have a home. I'd say General Gaming Discussions for now. OSR Central is just an experiment. If it doesn't work out, I'll roll the D&D stuff into the Dungeons and Dragons forum and create a "System Specific: non-specific other RPGs" forum.
