Listening to Tappy defend the "Fate is crunchy" statement really got me interested in trying the Fate system. I wanted to try the most generic form of Fate, so I started with Strands of Fate.
I've been a Hero system geek for most of my gaming life, so things like Aspects, Declarations, and the like are all new to me. I'm really liking the collaborative feel of the rules so far.
My players want to move their Hero toons over to Fate, which looks pretty painless.
Does anyone have any experience with Strands of Fate, or any tips for running heroic fantasy under Fate?
I really love Hero, but I'm really looking forward to learning Fate.

I played in a Con game that was created using Strands. It was pretty fun. Going from Hero to Fate is going to be a major shift, no only in the system, but probably in the way you guys play. I'm just weeks away from actually running some Fate, so I'll probably have more to say then. --Pukka Tukka

I like the lack of Skills in Strands. Attributes seem to take their place maybe?
Moving from Hero to Fate is about as big of a shift in playing style as I can imagine! Unless we try a GM-less system next...

In Strands, Aspects + Advantages take the place of skills, more or less. A couple of your character's Aspects (particularly if you follow the Aspect Alphabet) are going to define what your character's likely skill set is. This is further defined by Advantages, which will generally grant a +1 or +2 for specific uses of the "skills" your Aspects would suggest your character has.
I actually really like how Strands differentiates itself from other FATE implementations.

Yeah, that was my feeling too on Strands vs other Fate implementations. Since I'm running a fantasy game, I also did some research on LofA. And Strands seems to make more sense to my brain. YMMV, of course.
