For me, "where do you get your ideas" is a matter of synthesis and brainstorming and keeping every little idea just in case it sparks off something else. In the General forum is a thread called The Morgue, and a bunch of ideas are floating around in there. It's based off of something we were encouraged to do as art students at university: keep a "morgue file" of ideas, photographs, sketches, et cetera - even ones that don't work out - because you never know what might inspire you. So I keep a OneNote folder for that sort of thing. Then, when listening to a podcast or a song or an audiobook, or watching TV, or browsing a forum somewhere and an idea hits me, I pop the OneNote app open and make a note. Like, take the news lately. Hobby Lobby got in trouble for mass-importing possibly-stolen antiquities on the sly. Assumedly this isn't the first time they've done it, just the first time they got caught. So you've got a corporation that's bringing in tablets inscribed with who-knows-what on them... this would be a good hook for a Mage adventure. Or, as lowkeyoh mentioned, it's a Shadowrun adventure waiting to happen (hell, it's the set-up for Snow Crash, fergoshsakes).

...I excused myself and went to the bathroom. The idea of mechanized arachnobots with beam guns popped into my head. That now explains why I hear you go, "PEW! PEW!" in the next stall.

As nice of a concept this may be, I don't think it's the right question. We all come up with ideas and catalog them, what have you. The real questions are "How do decide which ideas you're going to run with?" and "How do you complete the ideas you get?"

I find travel helps - seeing a new place with fresh eyes seems to generate loads of ideas eg: after 2 decades in the UK I finally made it to Snowdonia in Wales: that scenery literally burst with inspiration . . . especially if you take the time go look up local lore (myths/legends/stories) Aaron PS: return trips to Amsterdam also help, for entirely different reasons

"How do decide which ideas you're going to run with?" If an idea makes me go "HOLY SHIT, THAT'S RAD!" then I run with it. If it doesn't, like I said above, it gets shoved into OneNote somewhere (or Google Keep, or any one of the numerous Moleskins and other notebooks I have kicking around the house) until I look at it sometime later and go "HOLY SHIT, THAT'S RAD!" If it never gets an HSTR (heh) then it never gets run with. "How do you complete the ideas you get?" Please understand that I don't consider myself authoritative on this subject. I'm just a dude talking with other dudes on a subject. I say this because... most my ideas that get an HSTR don't actually get completed. I'm a bit... flighty like that. P.S. "Dude", as used above, is used in its non gender specific form.

..and might I add, if Kimi can ever pin me down for Hot Seat show, I'll be happy to answer both questions.

"Dude", as used above, is used in its non gender specific form. Part of my intrest in the process of creation is what you do when you don't have a great idea. While it a great idea to keep some kind of catalogue of inspiration, what do you do when the pool of ideas is empty? I love practical advice and processes. It's a great idea to have a notebook and to mine it, but it won't get you out of a jam (particularly if you aren't good about keeping it). I don't do this, but I could see it being done: "When I don't know what to do next in my game I watch a movie and rip off the basis of the plot for an upcoming adventure." Or "I turn a celebrity into a character in the game world and base my session around them (quest giver or mob don Christoffer Walken, for example)". One thing I actually do is use Dungeon World's Steading generator to develop a place with a problem. Then I build an adventure around said problem. It gives me a setting and a dramatic question, which is most of what I need to run a session. It may not be the most inspired thing ever, but it keeps the trains running on time.
