How much does a normal beer cost in both places? Here in sweden one beer (more than 3,5% alcohol) cost 10-30 kronor ~ $1,5-$4 and you can only buy it in one type of government run store. The macrobrew stuff in the USA tastes weak and chemical, the mainstream stuff in Japan is slightly less garbage-esque. The beers I enjoy in the USA run about $8-11 for a six-pack; finding that same beer in Japan usually means I'm paying that same price for one bottle instead of six. Even easy-to-find stuff like Stone's Arrogant Bastard Ale is $4 or $5 for a "bomber" (large bottle), and I've paid ¥2500 for that bottle in Osaka. You get a thumbs-up just for mentioning Arrogant Bastard. I recently discovered that they've begun bottling it in six-packs here.

I just had some home made pea soup.
In a couple hours, I'll pee soup.

I prefer Lagunitas, but only by a little.

Just finished the LAST of my Reese's Peanut Butter Cup reserve, hand-carried back from the USA. I thought I'd save them for emergencies, but apparently every summer day in Osaka is a fucking emergency.

Swedish meatballs, mashed real potatoes "press cucumber", gravy and sugared lingon berries. What's this "press cucumber" thing? Sounds like a marital aid.

Yeah, I was just thinking about how Japanese those seemed. Typical su-no-mono is thin-sliced cucumber that has been briefly subjected to rice vinegar, sometimes ginger or konbu as well. There are also chopped cukes which have been salted and then smooshed. Those are pretty great, too.
