My favorite mostly unknown RPG is Kickstarting its second book. If you like dystopian renaissancey steampunk, swashbuckling, insanely dangerous magic, rogues, assassins, evil nobles sucking emotions out of their peasants, barbarians wielding giant weapons, musketeers, engineers, outlaw wizards and wizards using outlaw magic, the power of love helping you cheat death, an awesome social combat system, an amazing chase mechanic, and a unique and fun combat and magic system then you will love this game. Here is a pretty funny review. projects.inklesspen.com/fatal-and-friends/nifara/spellbound-kingdoms/
The combat system has a combat sheet for every fighting style. You start at certain points and every turn you pick a new maneuver. The longer you are progressing in style, the more powerful the moves are but there are countermoves your opponent can do to knock you out of your style and make you start over. Each move has an offensive and defensive die assigned to it. You can play it safe and use moves that have a higher defensive die attached or you can go offensive and try to kill your opponent before he kills you. The moves are simultaneous and you can see the style sheet of your enemy and they can see yours so strategy is key. The dice can also explode. You could roll a d2(coin flip) defense against a d12 attack and prevail. Rolling a two on the D2 allows you to roll a d4 and if you roll a 4 then you can roll a d6 and so on. The highest die roll counts so if you exploded from a d4 to a d6 and then rolled only a 2 then the 4 from the d4 counts.
Sorry about the huge paragraph about the combat system. It is by far my favorite combat system. It seems complicated, but once you get the hang of it, it moves insanely fast. You can preview the fighting system with the Combat Primer for free at www.spellboundkingdoms.com/SKCombatPrimer.pdf
The new Arcana book will add new combat styles, magic styles, races, world info, and all sorts of good stuff and the Kickstarter has many levels that offer the Corebook with it in PDF or Print on Demand. This not my company and I am not getting paid for this, but it is by far my favorite system and I want it to succeed so maybe I can actually find people to play it with. If any of you have any questions, I would be happy to answer them.
