After the party left the island, Miroslav’s forces arrived, nearly 20 helicopter transports and gunships and one AC-130U gunship.
The Nosferatu had gone to ground, but other Kindred were caught flatfooted. Enzo and Robert had left for the Osiris commune. This left the sole defender of the island, Caroline Austerman (the mage), alone to protect the people of Caravelle Island against Miroslav’s forces.
Unfortunately, she was only partially successful in her defense.
The reports say that “mechanical malfunctions” felled nearly 10 helicopters, some AH-64s and some transports. But when the AC-130U gunship flew over Austerman’s home, it let loose with its GA-12/U gatling gun, turning her home into a firery pile of burning splinters. Days later, her shattered form was discovered in the wreckage, bloody and lifeless. In her arms, she clutched an ancient book, written in Aramaic.
Miroslav’s Kindred troops landed (and the Kindred on the downed transports came to land), and they began hunting for every Kindred they could find. Miroslav’s forces slaughtered them all. Then the search began for the Antedelluvian. They scoured the tunnels and caves of the island, eventually finding the old sail ship, called “The King in Yellow,” but the ancient Cainite was gone. Miroslav howled in fury and terror that the Antedelluvian had escaped.
They searched every tunnel and chamber within the vast underground of the Mote, looking for the ancient Cainite and any surviving Kindred, but they found none. Not even Calvin and his Nosferatu brethren. Miroslav’s Gangrels picked up a scent of the foul Nosferatu, leading them to a tunnel deep within the island’s innards. They were met with a blank wall. There was only a crude painting, done in spray paint.
It was a disfigured, crude drawing of Kilroy, from the old WWII era, saying only, “Skully was here.”
