Taking a quick poll to see if as many people as me hate their current desk. Mine is the wrong height and so gets uncomfortable for long term use. Sure, maybe my chair is part of the issue, but the chair feels about right (in order for the desk to be right my feet would have to be swinging in the air like a toddler).
I ask because if enough people are in my situation, I may just try to solve the issue. I have an idea for a design that will be adjustable (on setup, not constantly), and able to put put together and taken apart easily without fasteners or adhesives. Part of my goals with the design are allowing the desk to be moved and set up by a single person without the use of a truck.
If you could buy such a desk for a reasonable price, would you? Other potential features would include a built in or mountable power strip (a must have for a computer desk), and the possibility of inbuilt fans for computer cooling (still on the fence on this as a feature, it will depend on where I figure out that a computer tower would best fit).

I hate my work desk with the burning passion of 1000 suns, but that's probably only because it's in a 6x6 cube in an "open office environment". As far as construction and ergonomics are concerned, it's good.
My home desk is ergonomically correct but its materials and construction are less than ideal. It sways side-to-side bad enough to knock over my toys (NOT THE TOYS!) when it's bumped.
If you can develop a better desk and bring it to market, I'd totally be interested.

I love my desk in my home office, but then again, I should, I built it. My work desk is good as well, if a little low for me. The difference is made up by the fact that my chair there is SO much better than the one I have in my home office.

I hate my work chair, the desk is ok, not much I can do there though. My home office chair is serviceable but could be better, the desk however is kinda crap. I would be interested in what you have in mind.

What about the materials is less than ideal? Are we talking pressboard that is degrading or is there some other kind of issue?

I move my “desk” which is fact a ancient dining room table. But a lot of the features @steven is looking for are available in the Ikea office range. You choose worktop, and legs separately. And some of the leg range are adjustable. There are things like cable ducting etc that can be clipped on. I build my wife a “custom” sewing table out of ikea office bits.

If this is true and the price is right, then I may be going to ikea instead.

What about the materials is less than ideal? Are we talking pressboard that is degrading or is there some other kind of issue? It's not degrading yet, but yeah, it's cheap pressboard and the designers didn't build in enough side to side stability. I've only had this desk a short while - it's somewhat new - and it was picked up super cheap at Walmart. If this desk lasts me a year, I'll be shocked.

I like standing height desks. I have a model from Ikea, which is honestly a little too short for me (they don't really do standing desks), but that's why I used those furniture risers that elevate it about 1/2 foot.
I have a professional standing mat as well. In the old days I used a thick yoga mat I got at a thrift store that I then cut into smaller pieces. Nowadays I upgraded to the pro stuff, like a TerraMat by CubeFit. Love it.
When I'm not standing I use a wooden stool that's very stable and the right height so that I'm relatively ergonomic. I like that there is no backing so you tend to slouch less (I still find myself slouching a lot, but you know, bad habits and all that. Also, found this at a thrift store.

Your picture is not displaying (at least for me). What helps me not slouch is a chair with a back that isn’t reclined. One thing which is lovely (probably the only thing) about a city bus is the drivers seat. Very adjustable. I prefer to sit straight up (especially when driving as a higher view lets you see better down the road).

Your picture is not displaying (at least for me). Probably cause I didn't post one. Here it is though: linkIt's got 6 legs total. You can see the little risers at the bottom right on the bottom of one leg. The legs are otherwise adjustable but close to their maximum setting. It wasn't the cheapest Ikea table, but by no means an expensive one. Also, been using this for about 5 years and super satisfied with it, and it's still in great condition and very stable.

How about your ergo floormat? Use it much?

How about your ergo floormat? Use it much? All the time. I probably spend about 80% of the time standing, at the desk. I like the various nubs and edges that provide different gradients cause then you can stretch the feet and it varies the standing positions and such. I read a bit about standing desks, and the advantages are varying your posture, but they do claim you shouldn't stand on hard ground for extended periods of time. (sources pending)

(sources pending) I recently switched to a standing desk in my home office. I greatly enjoy that the "getting up" portion of "getting up and wandering around" is removed, as I walk around and think a bunch more when working now. I also dance around sometimes, which is more difficult when seated. I can't remember what the formal name is for those. Standing Mat? Fatigue Mat? I had one at the first job that provided me with a standing desk. I am finding it was better than my current plan of "Standing on Hardwood Floors, Barefoot."
