Hi. Does anyone know if there exist some good Savage variants of the Dungeons & Dragons rulesets? I love the world of Dungeons & Dragons - and have run several campaigns with it - but I have decided to leave the rules behind and use Savage Worlds instead; it does a better job capturing the kind of gung-ho action story I want my fantastic fantasy adventures to be.
I understand it's not really a "problem" playing d&d-style adventures in Savage Worlds - but since I'm going to let the new campaigns stay in the same world (and keep the same flavor and concepts), is there any material giving ideas on how to make different and fun Arcane Backgrounds for concepts like Wizards, Bards, Warlocks etcetera?
Or should I just say that every spell is a Bolt now and move on with my life? ;-)

The print version is out of print pending a new revision, but I'd advise at least picking up the PDF of the SW Fantasy Companion. It has more medieval gear, races, racial Edges, monsters, and rules for gods and religions (basically, what constitutes which severity of sin for different types of gods). It even has new arcane backgrounds like Alchemy and Sorcery.
Definitely worth picking up if you're doing Savage Medieval Fantasy.

Try Here.Go about halfway down the page. It's called Advanced Dungeons & Savages. I looked it over years ago when looking for a fantasy game for Savage Worlds and realized it was too much like D&D for my tastes. Might be useful for what you want, though.

I have looked at Shaintar in the past. Hopefully I'm spelling that right. Kind of a D&D worldish kind of book. There are a few books out for it now. The other I've looked at is Hellfrost. Though I do own Iron Dynasty and Winterwier but your milage may vary with those two. Iron Dynasty is a steampunk Asian setting. And Winterweir is a strange fantasy setting that I've never quite figured out. Though I haven't read all of it.
I will second EricaOdd's recommendation of the Fantasy Companion.
Forgot that there is also Lankhmar now too.

I've been running a D&D inspired Savage Worlds Campaign for over a year and I'm thinking of posting all the custom edges/spells/races I've written for it. I also recommend the fantasy companion as well as this site www.godwars2.org/SavageWorlds/You'll find lots of good stuff in the pdf supplements.

I used the savage abilities book a lot as a guide for creating new stuff.
