Just walked in the door from the second viewing -- probably even more fun the second time around! Had a blast.
Minus 1/10 point for the cretin two rows behind me who, apparently, took 30 minutes to open a #%!#% package of... something.

Poe Dameron shouldn't have been demoted - he made the right call. If that dreadnought had survived it would have killed the Resistance Fleet minutes after chasing them thru hyperspace - those guns had both the range and the power to shatter the Resistance Fleets shields and annihilate the fleeing ships. Poe's initial tactic saved the Resistance and assessment a 'Fleet Killer' was the more immediate threat was accurate. He should have received a commendation as soon as it became obvious the 1st Order was able to track them. Aaron

Let it go mate ... you are beginning to sound like a sad puppy š Itās only a pulp movie You misread me, I don't hate the movie I just think it has problems. Rian Johnson was sloppy. The franchise shouldn't be divided. If Disney want to set up certain things then it could have been done better. The journey to the end is as important as the end itself in story's. Poe Dameron is one of the new characters who I want to succeed to carry the franchise forward but his demotion and labelling didn't sit well with the character as established Disney's own lore. The Poe Dameron marvel comic is a hoot, like the Phasma stuff outside the movies (she is a proper badass) but this doesn't come acrossin the films It's like the movies are isolated from the rest of the stuff Disney are doing - except for Rogue One, which is still one of my favourite new Star wars to date. Rogue One tied in Clone Wars and Rebels to make Star Wars a unified whole. That's why it worked in making so many people happy. The division of opinion for Rogue One is similar to the division of opinion for Justice League - knowing their is an alternative directorial version the 'grass is greener' phenomena gains traction (ie: people hope the unseen version is better than the one they got). Mind you the trailers for Rogue One, by showing the dropped footage, was the main faux par that fed this dissent ( a lesson learnt by Disney, thus the holding off of the Han Solo trailer) I am worried that the next movie will pull another direction again, having a JJ Abrams back at the helm. JJ set up a number of characters, Rian turns them on their head and now it goes back to JJ (are Rey's parents now going to 'be somebody': I hope not, because then it's just running around in circles). We all know what we really wanted to happen with the characters of Poe and Finn and it got buried. It's not like Disney has been shy about LGBT characters in it's new canon, in fact it's handled them very well by just having them there as a 'matter of fact' but when it came to core characters on film they lost their bottle . . . Aaron PS: plus I'm a bit bored waiting on a 'fresh Box' (or whatever it's called) delivery and watching a certain film on a certain streaming app PPS: I think Ron Howard can definitely deliver on Han Solo - he made the last Dan Brown book watchable (reading the book was, how to be polite?, an act of dedication? one book too far? ... oh, shit there's another one, I think I'll just watch the movie for Origin)

I read an article that stated it was important for Yoda to be the one to burn the tree down. Yoda's arguably the most important Jedi, so him being the one to burn everything down meant it was the right thing to do. I buy that. I can see that, but it still remains that Luke went to the tree with a torch with the intention to burn it, and didn't. And yet the books were saved. I'm assuming you guys saw that when Finn got his jacket or whatever from Rey's compartment toward the end that the books were in there? Per some article: "That library contained nothing that the girl Rey does not already possess," Yoda says. It sounds cheeky, but heās being literal: as we see later, Rey snatched the books before fleeing Ahch-To and hid them in a drawer on the Millennium Falcon (we briefly see her store them as she takes off, and get a better look near the filmās end when Finn opens the drawer to get a blanket for Rose). So yes, in addition to Lukeās lessons that Rey no doubt took to heart, she also has the literal tools to reform the Jedi Order, something Luke failed to fully accomplish. Thatās another lesson Yoda imparts on Luke: "We are what they grow beyond. That is the true burden of all masters."

Yeah, I missed that on the first viewing, and looked specifically for it on the second time around. Yoda: Jedi Master, or Master Troll?

Yodaās been a troll since Episode V - sounding like a demented Gollum as he rummages thru Lukeās provisions (knowing exactly who he is and why heās there). I wouldnāt be surprised to find out that, off camera, Yodaās peculiar sense of humour was what set Palpatine down the path of the Sith to begin with (Palpās being aware heās force sensitive, looking at Yoda and thinking āfuck those guys, Iāll join the Sith insteadā) Aaron

Like I say - sloppy writing and direction that leaves much to be desired. The same script in the hands of a more capable director - could have made it amazing. Aaron I respect that you didn't like his work here, but Johnson's other movies have been pretty amazing.

Aaron I respect that you didn't like his work here, but Johnson's other movies have been pretty amazing. Looper was good - mayhaps my criticism should be more directed at the Lucas Film Story Group. After all theyāre supposed to check for exactly the sort of things that went wrong in the script. Say what one will of the prequels at least George had a consistent story to tell - he (George) should never write or direct a romance though ... but he did write and direct American Graffiti ... Brick is one of my favorite cult flicks, if youāve never seen it. Noir detective stuff with a bit of a different backdrop.

The Brothers Bloom is also under-appreciated.
