Just at the start of the episode but Stork asked about XP and it made me wonder how you're going to handle progression through the schools given the characters were made Ronin.
I've only skimmed the beta rules so don't know if this is something that will be an issue or if it has been addressed (I can't even remember off the top of my head how school techniques work in the new system). Will the characters need to join a new Crane school as they progress or is the plan to hand wave things for the time being?

stork If you'd wanted to insult the Crane Champion getting him a weapon like Kimi suggested would have been the way to go. Giving a samurai a weapon can be considered an insult because they may interpret it as you saying their master isn't providing for them.

Giving a samurai a weapon can be considered an insult because they may interpret it as you saying their master isn't providing for them. It depends on the situation. A ronin giving a weapon to a Champion, or you passing a weapon 'up the chain', would most likely be an insult. However, a higher ranking official giving a weapon 'downchain' is an honor. They won't expect you to replace your family katana with it, but there will be an expectation that you show the weapon off in a prominent place in your home and/or carry it when you visit that noble. There's an assumption that your katana belonged to your family generally, usually your father's father's katana. However, there's only so many grandpas in the world to go around

Further into the episode and every so often I want to make a comment about the wider world / how the clans act etc but have to keep reminding myself that this is Stu's Rokugan and not mine or even completely the one in the books. Those are the sort of comments that kept me away from the game for far too long.

John Wick was a fan of seeing how players and GMs took Rokugan and made it their own. I think he really believed that there was more than enough room in Rokugan for every tale, and that the tale of ronin and the Inukai was infinitely more Cool and more interesting than games where you have to bump into the NPCs who are story-important

There's an interesting side bit in Bearers of Jade originally - I think it's come into the newer editions as well - that the Crab do improv. To pass time, to keep people sharp... they'll take a helm and throw notes in of characters, of situations, and draw them out and create improv scenes. So, basically you have these brawny mountains of men playing Scenes from a Hat from Who's Line Is It Anyway?

Like whodo said, this is Stu's Rokugan not mine, but one thing keeps bugging me a lot. You guys are no longer "Hida" "Isawa" or "Shiba" you are "Inukai" or more aptly "Asahina"(IIRC they are the patron family of the Inukai vassals, yes?). In non-Crane company, you would refer to yourselves as Asahina Ichiro and not Isawa or even Inukai. In Crane company, it would be entirely appropriate to refer to yourselves as Inukai Ichiro, etc. In Rokugan, the family is the most important thing. Having been made ronin, it would be a great insult to your former clan to keep using those names or mons and would likely result in being challenged to a duel.
