Duel Conflicts

I am relistening to the duel from this session while checking the rules and there are some things I think need some clarification.
Firstly, strife in a duel is apparently insanely important. You gain strife every round no matter what. Round one you gain 1, round 2 you gain 2, etc. And you get your bid amount as well. Your stance can raise or lower the strife amount, as can your action in the duel. If at any point during the duel someone's strife reaches the tipping point(Unmasking) then the other participant gets an immediate Finishing Blow against them, even if the tipping point happens during that character's turn!
Example: Shinjo Bob and Mirumoto Sam are pissed at each other and enter a duel. They eye each other from across the distance(the assessment check or decline the assessment and immediately remove 3 strife). They then center themselves and look for weakness in the other(The staredown), tension builds with each duelist(strife bid). Then the duel begins. Each opponent senses the tensions mounting even further(take strife for the round). The faster duelist(top of initiative order) settles himself to ready for the duel(choosing stance, Fire in this instance). In our case, Mirumoto Sam is faster. So on his turn he channels the element of Fire and his body goes tense and steels for the coming combat. He then scrutinizes Shinjo Bob closely(Martial Arts: Melee check using Fire for his stance, he succeeds and gets 3 total successes which makes the TN to hit him 3), and thinks he will be channeling Water for his action. Action then turns to Shinjo Bob. Shinjo Bob settles himself fluidly(water stance) and then also scrutinizes Mirumoto Sam(Martial Arts: Melee with Water for his stance, and succeeds with 2 total successes which makes the TN to hit him 2), he realizes then that Mirumoto Sam guessed he would do just that and gets worried(takes 3 strife from Mirumoto Sam's check) and thinks that Mirumoto Sam will use Fire for his action. The two again center themselves(staredown), and tension builds again(strife bid). Fingers tighten on and muscles clench(2 strife for the round). Shinjo Bob shakes and trembles(his strife exceeds his composure) and Mirumoto Sam sees his chance and goes for the Finishing Blow. He strikes hard in a flash (does enough damage to exceed Bob's Resilience of 10 with a total damage of 12. This results in a Critical Strike with a value of 5, which is the deadliness of the Katana). Shinjo Bob desperately attempts to dodge the blow(Athletics skill check, Bob chooses Earth for the check and gets 2 successes, reducing the Critical Strike value to 3.) Bob turns aside slightly but still receives a blow strong enough to knock him down. (Immoblized condition from the Critical Strike table) The duel ends.
