From what I read, there is still some trouble with "taint" being considered funny and not taken with the gravity it deserves. Thus I have a few suggestions for fixing that issue:
1) Tainted characters who die do not get reincarnated, hence you must create a new starting character with no rollover XP. This serves to make real for the players the threat of the taint to their very souls (which are more important than anything in this life).
2) Show, don't tell. You need never utter the word, "taint". Let it's dark manifestations show.
3) Ensure that the players have a preexisting relationship to the afflicted. This makes the manifestations of the taint more obvious by contrast to how they normally are. It also serves to ensure they care about the plight of the afflicted. It's all fun and games until it is someone you know (and maybe even loved).

Just using a different word when talking to peasants or others who have their own local word for 'evil' of this nature. In fact, the characters would probably be like "oh shit, what's this Darkcloud that all of them keep talking about and making wards against", only to find out eventually they're basically talking about the taint. Gives a bit of that "uneducated villagers" vibe, as they've got their own superstitions. And the next time a weird word comes up for some unknown evil, the PCs don't know if that's taint or something completely different, or imagined.

Especially when you consider that for all people fear to say Fu Leng's name, it's not his actual name but he's become aware of it enough for it to draw his attention.

Yeah it’s like “chaos” in warhammer fantasy or “Cthulhu” in call of...and 30 other games...something horrid is happening but it’s dreadful and unknown.

It also helps if you don't use a synonym for "gooch" for the name.

I've mentioned this before but I'm a little baffled by the sheer insistence the HJ crew have with the notion that "taint" is such a hilarious word. I had literally never heard, or read, the word "taint" used to mean anything other than its default definition before listening to Happy Jacks. And even since then, I've only ever heard it used that way a handful of times anywhere else. So it's actually kind of weird to me to have a group of grown men (and sometimes women, but let's be honest it's mostly the men) giggling at the mention of the word "taint" as if it was as ridiculous as if the game term had been "The Analific Assplosion Curse!!!" or something equally ridiculous.
I kinda wonder if the prevalence of the alternate meaning of "taint" might be heavily generational or localized.

Jessica on Interpol X giggled with wild abandon at its mention...what’s a mature adult to do ??😄

I would think that if it's a problem, just use an alternate name for it. I'd assume the joking at the table about the Taint doesn't bother a decent amount of listeners aren't bothered. I think where the problem would come from detracting about how deadly serious in-game the touch of corruption is. It's something that is like an intelligent, contagious cancer or plague.
Let's say you're playing some game involving the world of the Stand. Are you going to be okay with every time Captain Trips is referenced someone making bad stoner references if you're trying to establish the mounds upon mounds of dead people? It varies table to table. It's all a spectrum.

The actual definitions are so wonderfully ominous. Unfortunate turn of slang “tainting” a great word....DYSWIDT?

Yeah. I try to use "corruption" when we are in serious moments, but when you're improving and talking off the top of your head it sometimes slips out. *shrug*

Gotta say. Here in the UK taint means the trace of something bad. I don’t think the British have ever found a need for a slang term for the perineum. Stu Venable seems to blame AEG (and now FF) for wilfully using a word with such a “hilarious” double meaning. Personally, I think the HJ crew should just ... grow up.

There’s gotta be a similar unfortunate coopting of a word in Britain Kainguru ? But “bugger me” if I can think of one...

They think it means ‘to rummage around’ as well as being part of a plant. But we need not ‘fanny’ around need we? Aaron

I've heard it with pandas. "Eats bushes and leaves."
