There’s gotta be a similar unfortunate coopting of a word in Britain Kainguru ? But “bugger me” if I can think of one... Wombat: ‘Eats, roots, shoots and leaves’ doesn’t work as a joke in the UK. They think it means ‘to rummage around’ as well as being part of a plant. But we need not ‘fanny’ around need we? Aaron We had “fannypacks” in the late ‘80s in the USA. I guess they’re called “hip packs” most other places? Marketing dudes at our company took a bunch to Australia for part of a promotion. When they declared them at Aussie Customs, the clerks there had a good laugh. Then they had the rest of their crew come over, had the marketing guys repeat the term a few times until all the clerks were roaring with laughter. The point being fairly banal language drift can still be surprisingly amusing.
