Sasha Baron Cohen snookered the US three times for a hat trick. The Borat character was a minor role when he started while doing Ali G. Admittedly his Ali G interviews were TV release only with the Ali G movie bearing very little resemblance to the original TV format concept. Ali G like Borat would interview various extreme UK and US elements as the supposed 'Youth Culture Representative' for channel 4. The Borat character was far more successful in getting extremists to publicly admit the most distasteful truths behind their more contrived rationalisations.
For a real laugh look up 'The Mark Thomas Comedy Product' (also channel 4 UK) and what he did at an international arms fair. When you watch it remember it's real . . . He actually got away with it . . .

1. Player X (okay, she's the player of the half-drow thief that I've mentioned) didn't forget the backstory she'd created. She made her character's mother's background considerably grander because when she first created the character, she didn't know that drow were matriarchal. But I had been planning on using the mother's humiliation and ambition as her motivation, and anyway, my game isn't set in the actual Forgotten Realms. Plus, I had already started dropping hints about this storyline at least ten sessions ago (sigh), though there's nothing that I can't explain away if I have to. I do like the idea about having the character be wrong about what was going on....
2. Hackmaster Basic is not the same as Hackmaster 4th Edition. It's also not "Essentials" for Hackmaster 4E. Hackmaster 4E is the one that was a joke, and it was basically a straight-up AD&D clone. Hackmaster Basic is brand-new, with a substantially tweaked ruleset. And yes, you have to roll your stats in order, which obviously isn't for everyone. But the guy did say he wanted old-school!
3. Re "Elves Hate Dwarves and Vice-Versa" (warning, Tolkien geekery ahead): I'm sure it all comes from Tolkien, but he actually gives a reason for it; they had some bad interactions centuries before LOTR which spill into the time of the book. (And of course, since his elves are immortal, the ones who are around at that time could have actually participated in some of the incidents.) It's become a fantasy cliche, though, and many settings don't bother to explain it. --Also, I don't think it's accurate to say Sauron's forces are integrated in the modern army sense. The men, at least, seem to be their own group with their own commanders, which is what you'd expect with a multinational medieval-style army anyway.
4. Where can I find this video of the D&D cartoon parody dub with die-rolling?

Yup. I own Hackmaster Basic, so my comments were specifically about that edition. Can't speak to anyone else's comments.

I can't believe no one brought up "Dez Moins". I thought Kimi read Jimto's first email eons ago and said "Dez Moins".
Classic Happy Jacks.

Topic: having different character levels in the same party.
Deadlands has the 'Veteran of the Weird West" edge. The character who takes this edge starts out an experience rank higher than the starting level of the campaign (so about +20 xp in Savage Worlds). Of course you then draw a card and tell your GM what it was and the GM then snickers maniacally, as (s)he has just gotten a new plot hook from that edge.

That dubbed D&D cartoon is freaking hilarious. I'd seen it (somehow) before it got a mention on the cast and fell out of my chair laughing. Well worth a watch.

RE: the guy who listens but has never actually gamed himself (Michael?).
He probably started listening to the podcast because he, like many of us, thought it was the Happy Jack's Rocket-Propelled Grenade Podcast.
I was so disappointed for those first few episodes....

Full of Awesome. I read this a long time ago - I would have really loved to see this series finale made.

The script was produced as a radio script. And it was included on the DVD set for region 1, originally released and sold on Amazon. It is unfortunate the original voices were not used - well, "Sheila" was. My impression is that the original voices would have been interested, especially given the fact how Willie Aames was accomodated for his voice of Hank back in the day.

Fabu! Thanks for the link! While we're on the subject of cartoons, I have two Bronies in my gaming group. They're far more into the show than any of the female group members. Of course, I think they're largely there for the femmeslash.... Also, isn't it Clarabelle the Cow, not Annabelle?

Where are the "Show Notes" you guys always talk about in the 'cast. I never have been able to find them.
