My group takes turns doing writeups of each game. We played our first game of Fiasco the other night, so the guy who usually DMs our D&D game did a write up.
A few notes: We played pretty "gonzo" this time around. It was a blast, but I imagine at some point we'll go for a different tone.
This is pretty long so I'll break it up into multiple posts:
setup: relationships: adam <-> andrea = work relationship...current co-workers andrea <-> robert = friendship...friends with benefits robert <-> jim = crime...corrupt official & local big-shot jim <-> adam = crime...thievery
needs: to get laid -> because you need the raise that badly to get even -> with a co-worker
object: sentimental -> a wedding ring!
location: main st. -> peacehaven church
how'd that translate into a starting story? fleshing out the above:
jim farnsworth (jim) - the vastly corrupt mayor of bethelham, indiana. he's got all 20 digits in various pies and it's almost a wonder that anything could get done in this town at all considering how much money/services get diverted to his coffers. of late, jim has been working with the town treasurer on a new scheme and only needs one more piece of the puzzle to get a new cash stream flowing.
owen claine (rob) - owen has recently moved back to town from southern california, where he had went to be a big film actor. as it turns out, he has only starred in syfy late night originals and is squarely in b-movie actor territory, if not lower. that doesn't stop him from basking in the accolades of the local townsfolk, who find him to be the hugest thing to happen to town since hank mccormick's prize steer one champion at the state fair 20 years ago. some would call it tucking his tail between his legs and fleeing l.a., but he prefers to see it as a 'relaxing sabbatical'. hoping to ride on his town standing, owen plans to produce and star in a new syfy original to be filmed in bethelham. if only he could find the money...
chet cutley (adam) - bethelham's treasurer. he generally overlooks the mayor's questionably legal dealings with town funds, and is generally known as a sort of pushover. after a recent fling with a member of the office cleaning staff, chet has decided to put it all on the line and ask her to marry him. finding that buying a ring was quite expensive, coupled with financial worries for his new wedded life, chet has started to look for alternate ways of funding his situation. the city municipal water service has several clerical loopholes that could be manipulated if only there were someone to run cash through to take any suspicion off of anyone that would happen to siphon some off. chet's decided that no one would be better to partner up on this venture than his boss, the mayor.
maria schwartz (andrea) - the sexy spanish jew cleaning woman at town hall. having heard that big time actor owen clane (with whom there was a short lived passion in high school) moved back to town, maria wants to trade in her mop bucket and dust rag in exchange for a new life as a movie starlet; if only she could somehow convince owen to let her star in his new production...

Act One
scene 1 (jim): sunday @ the peacehaven church on main street, bethelham. church has just let out and jim catches chet in the outer hall while working his way through the small crowd of townsfolk milling around. jim thinks he's found just the person to help them out with their water money scheme. they then find owen, making glad-handing appearances in the church and ask if there were someplace more private to meet to discuss funding for his new movie venture. they agree to meet up at owen's house that afternoon.
scene 2 (robert): on the way back to his car (parked in front of the town hall across the street from the church), owen runs into maria out front of the town hall on her smoke break. as their eyes meet, their romance from years past is rekindled. after some talk about owen's movie making career, maria suggests they go back to his place to discuss how she can get a part in his film. just then, her phone rings - it's maria's doctor, telling her that the test results came back positive; she has syphilis and needs treatment immediately. not wanting to ruin her dreams of stardom, maria pretends she's setting up an on the side cleaning job and quickly hangs up. her cleaning cart sits, alone, as they drive away in owen's bmw.
scene 3 (andrea): LOVE SCENE while waiting for owen to finish up, maria ponders her syphilitic dilemma over and over. where did she get it? from chet? did she give it to him? does she care? soon after, owen and maria lie in bed smoking and talking about what part she is to play in his new movie - a sci-fi/martial arts/high school/musical called "the hidden fist". owen feels that she would be perfect for one of the school janitors. maria feels otherwise and offers to call her workmate, rosa, over so they can all talk over how she can get the leading role of the hidden fist's cheerleader love interest.
scene 4 (adam): jim & chet arrive at owen's home to discuss their financial plans. owen answers the door in a bathrobe and they enter. conversation turns to the film and owen mentions that he's considering making his current love interest a player in the film: a smokin hot spanish woman with dental issues. this leads chet to realize that the love of his life has left him and he flies into a rage, only to be calmed by owen's denial of any knowledge related to chet and maria's relationship and jim's reminder that the vast amounts of money to be had will only serve to cool his rage if they can pull this off. chet calms himself and they set up their embezzlement/laundering scheme. chet has neither forgiven nor forgotten maria's infidelity, however...
scene 5 (jim): SEVERAL WEEKS LATER bob, the public works director, confronts mayor jim outside of his office about a disturbing discrepancy that he's found recently. suspecting the worst, jim invites him to his office to talk things over. bob claims that there is a paper trail that point to water works money being diverted into bogus receipts and that payroll this week just barely made it through petty cash. jim adamantly denies that anything is amiss and surely bob has misunderstood normal practices - he's not an accountant! jim gives bob the brush off and tells him that he'll take care of it and let him know what he finds. after bob leaves, jim immediately calls chet to give him the heads up that someone's on their trail. unbeknownst to either, maria has been cleaning jim's executive bathroom (to clear her mind) and has overheard the entire thing!
scene 6 (robert): FLASHBACK TO YESTERDAY on set, owen is filming the big dance scene where the school realizes that the hidden fist has fled into the martian wastes. owen is directing and calls a cut due to poor timing of dance moves. maria approaches him to ask why she hasn't had any speaking parts/etc yet and is told that it just wasn't working out. owen calls lunch and they retire to his trailer to "discuss" a larger role.
scene7 (andrea): FLASHBACK after lunch, maria is now a cheerleader in the far back corner in the dance number. finally realizing that she's being used, she snaps, screaming at owen (on a set of bleachers, director megaphone in hand) about how he's destroyed her life and she gave him syphilis. maria then runs off set to the trailer where she uses the prayer candles (a santa maria and baby jesus) she gave owen to start his trailer on fire. the key grip races to stop her, but is tackled by maria's cousin, a member of a local hispanic biker gang who has been hired to play the part of a martian cowboy. the trailer burns as maria screams at owen; several fights have broken out; the sprinkler system has been triggered by the flaming trailer, causing the cast members to slip and flail around on the slick set; owen yells for help from atop the bleachers, clinging to his director's chair for dear life.
scene 8 (adam): chet hangs up the phone after talking with the mayor about the water works director and looks back at his computer, which is displaying the INS website. he then finds their phone number and dials it on his cell. of course he gets misrouted to another state's offices, but after some confusion, he calls out the local branch to look into the illegals that have been working for the city office's (completely off the books, of course) janitorial department.

developments from the tilt were:
"collateral damage" "cold blooded revenge"
cold blooded revenge? easy! so many opportunities: maria vs owen -> betrayed trust owen vs maria -> destroyed movie set chet vs maria -> betrayed trust/love mayor vs chet -> INS immigration issues at this point it only serves to hone the insanity a bit.
collateral damage? a little harder, but then we realized bob had to go!
ACT TWO
scene 1 (jim): one night, not long after, bob exits work at the plant late one night. after entering his car, jim pops up from the back seat, belt in hand as an impromptu garrotte. after a brief struggle, bob loses air slumps to the seat below. jim, satisfied that he's eliminated the threat, exits the car and takes off into the night. little does he know that he merely rendered bob unconscious. little do they both know that maria was cleaning the water works offices for overtime money and witnessed the entire thing.
scene 2 (robert): while at home, pondering how he's going to recoup all the money for the set damage and how bad the stds are that he contracted from maria, owen gets a phone call. it's maria, insisting that he meet her @ the denny's by the highway to discuss some recent developments OR ELSE.
scene 3 (andrea): maria meets the three embezzlers at the local denny's, where she threatens to reveal all of their misdeeds to the authorities if they do not pay her ONE MILLION DOLLARS!! after some initial balking, they agree, provided they are given time to amass the cash. she also lets chet know that she's been banging the local INS agents for their turning a blind eye to her illegal status.
scene 4 (adam): having had his deportation scheme thwarted, and facing his eminent blackmail, chet decides that maria's got to go. obtaining a prop gun from owen's set, rounds from the mayor (from the police lockup), and a richard nixon mask from an old halloween costume, the group take jim's grand marquis to go hunting for a spanish jew. they find maria leaving her cousin's taco wagon, not far from the town gas station. the car flies up over the curb an squeals to a halt, chet popping out the passenger door. brandishing the pistol and wedding ring (which he proceeds to throw at maria in a fit of rage), chet opens fire wildly at the scene. nearly everyone at the wagon, including the owner, all bystanders, and bob (getting a churro after being released from the e.r.) are gunned down (bob screams that he never knew love). a bottle of hot sauce is hit and sprays all over maria, leading chet to believe that his revenge is complete. he dives into the car (already starting to roll, as jim has heard approaching sirens) and they speed away from the scene.
scene 5/6 (jim/rob): CHASE SCENE cops soon catch up to the grand marquis, demanding jim pull over. chet hangs out the window, unloading a clip at the police cruiser. owen begins to beat himself in the face, in the hope that he can fool the authorities into believing he's been kidnapped by the two lunatics; he passes out due to his self-attack. jim pulls over; "i'm the mayor, these pigs got nothing on me!!" he yells to chet, in response to his frantic queries as why they'd stopped. what they hadn't noticed was that the officers in pursuit had both been hit and killed by chet's attack. the cruiser slams into the back of the grand marquis, and when jim decides to flee, he realizes that the two cars are not locked together due to the collision. jim takes the pistol, rubs it down, and gives it to owen (passed out). chet throws the nixon mask in his lap and they flee the scene, running to the nearby kum n go to find a pay phone where jim calls 911. police soon arrive on scene to take away owen, declaring his innocence from the back of the police car.
scene 7 (andrea): realizing that she hasn't been hit, maria gets to her feet, tears off her hot sauce stained shirt, and jumps into the taco wagon to give chase to her assailants. she arrives at the kum n go just in time to see the police car run into the grand marquis and decides to ambush the group at the gas station. after parking the taco wagon behind the building, maria sneaks into the back door and hides in wait in the men's restroom stall. not long after, chet enters and approaches the urinal. maria creeps up behind him, gun to his temple.
scene 8 (adam): hearing the *click* as she pulls the trigger, chet throws all his weight into driving maria backwards into the sinks and then flees the bathroom, collecting jim, stealing the taco wagon (the grand marquis having been towed), and heading to the city hall. there, they proceed to find and shred all of the documents they can find regarding this entire escapade.

the aftermath
jim farnsworth: having successfully covered his tracks and using his massive pull as mayor, jim not only gets of scot-free, but still has the embezzled money (chet having put it into an off-shore account). this he uses to fund his tap water bottling scheme which nets him so much money that he can retire to a ranch populated by hookers and cocaine.
owen clane: having been released from jail (overnight stay) on lack of evidence owen leaves town, vowing never to return. he obtains his old apartment in l.a., contacts his agent, and goes back to a life of a b-movie star.
chet cutley: leaving the court house after shredding documents, chet was hit by the taco wagon as maria backed out of the parking lot (having just re-stolen ii). while in traction, chet learns missed receipts for the purchase and installation of a sex swing used on set in the musical and was brought on embezzlement and money laundering charges. after being told he'll be going to jail for possibly multiple decades, he's also told that he has syphilis.
maria schwartz: escaping town in the taco wagon, maria finds a stash of thousands of dollars of rainy day funds her cousin put away. she considers this her inheritance and uses it, and the money she gains pawning the wedding ring, to fund a trip in the taco wagon to l.a. with her newly found pawnbroker husband. while in l.a., she is approached by an agent who had seen some rough cuts of the hidden fist and was so impressed he wants her to star in his next film. she does and is propelled into an a-list lifestyle of stardom and misses the next year's oscar by just one vote.
THE END
