Thought we could use a thread for our afterthoughts on the con,
This year, I ran Dead Presidents 3: Preside Harder, and a pathfinder game, Fellowship of the Bling. Neither game went the way I thought they would, and they were both better for it.
Dead Presidents games are my favorite. Players come into the game ready to jump into a character and have a great time. We were on track to run long, but the players managed to roleplay a resolution to the final encounter, and we ended up finishing slightly early. I felt so great about how this game went, and the players all loved it so much, that I'm pretty sure I'll only run Dead Presidents games at the next con. Either the same game twice, or two new games.
My next game wasn't until 2pm on Sunday, so I spent Saturday afternoon enjoying lunch with my fiancee and Stork, napping, and finishing up most of my game prep for the next day's game. I skipped out on a game I signed up for, but it was worth it to get the PCs finished and have free time for wandering around before the podcast.
I think the recording went well, though the panel type seating doesn't really allow the hosts to see each other that well, and I think we (mostly me) end up talking over each other a lot more than we do during our studio casts.
Sunday morning I played in JiB's Fantasy HERO game, playing a grifter with D.I.D. I spent a lot of the game staying quiet, trying to get the other characters to do as much of the heavy lifting as possible, before stepping in, getting some really useful information, and then blowing every roll required to use it. All in all, a really fun game, even if we didn't get as far as we should have. It makes me want to learn HERO a little better, not so I can run it, but so I don't feel like an infant during combat.
I'm going to try and talk about my Pathfinder game on the next podcast, and don't want to spoil it too much here, but at one point, the players (which contained 3 listeners, a host, and 2 guys who damn well should be listeners) had me tearing up prepared material while saying "Fuck you guys."
Sunday night included playing Nuclear Warfare with some Happy Jackers, a medical emergency (in which several Happy Jackers stepped up to help a guy out), and sweet, sweet sleep.
So, how was con for you?
