This is not a hate summoning thread i was just wondering why people mostly like pathfinder over dnd 3.5 or 3.5 over pathfinder.
I am an long running gm that only recently got the chance to play a bit. Now i was running gurps for past 2 years and it didnt trigger the right dots as old dnd did. But since then i got my hands on some pathfinder books and wen through them. Mostly i liked clerics chaneling ability, modifications on wizards and sorcerers... but mostly Combat Manever rules. I understood those and made sence to me.
I had my secondary group make a party in pathfinder got decent group took longer to make chars since to most players it was a firs dnd game ever. But we did it and now we have full 4 session running game with future plans...
However when i suggested that i would like to run a pathfinder game for them, one of my best friends and good roleplayer said he would not like to play in pathfinder rules set (we play homebrew world). Didnt get an explanation just big NO and had no problem other character being made in that system.
So this got me thinking what is the bigest issue in your expirience to why players dont like pathfinder?

Pathfinder basically IS 3.5, but with a few minor tweaks. The base classes got powered up so that they are actually on an even power level with the INSANE stuff WOTC put out near the end of 3.5 support. XP loss for magic Items, and familliars is removed, instead using items/gold to craft Items, and the CR system is broken down into how much XP an encounter should provide so that you can more easily create Mixed parties of enemies in an encounter.
Otherwise, almost 100% the same. No conversion is really nessisary between the 2, except monster CR's from 3.5 need to be reduced by 1.

I don't think you'll find a lot of hate between Pathfinder and 3.5 here, from what I've heard on the podcast, and what I have seen in the live chats, they are sort of looked at as weird brothers, almost interchangeable when people talk about things or use source books between them.
My ex-MMO players really like that you get something more than just extra hit points when you level in Pathfinder, a new skill or ability. I gotta say while I never felt like the game was missing something in between levels before, I am liking the way characters advance in Pathfinder.
Higher level I still have no real experience. Most of my players like the 1-10 area. They never fixed the high level bloat with any iteration of 3.x.

Yeah, I've yet to play a game beyond 12th level that didn't feel WAY UBER to the point that the number(crunch) just wasn't that fun anymore. The RP seemed to really start to take a backseat to making the game have suitable challenges for the PC's. Never mind Epic tier stuff...

3rd level or 30th ? Either way you had fun and that is all that matters as far as I am concerned. We had a great time playing 20-30 level characters on their way to immortality but the old Golden Immortals boxed set overly confused our teenage minds so we just retired them.
