Hey guys,
I just kinda wondered if maybe people would be interested in having a discussion some time, either over G+ or skype or mumble or something, about world-building as a GM. It's my favourite thing to do gaming-wise, and I figure it do it pretty well, but I'm always excited to hear ideas, tips, tricks, etc from other people.
I don't know if people would be more interested in a kind of broad-strokes overview, or if they'd rather do like a workshop where everyone brings their project to the table and collaboratively works on everything, but I'm open to either, or both.
I'd briefly thought of making a giant post about what my basic procedure is, but it's hard to write down. Also, there's a lot of pictures and youtube videos, and songs and clippings from podcasts, etc. I figure a live discussion where people can bounce ideas together would be a better medium.
Also, have we decided on a "useful media for GMs to draw inspiration from" thread yet? I've been hoping for one to pop up so I can put neat stuff on it.
edited: The date to keep is Thursday, January 24 at 5:30 PST / 8:30 EST PM!

I'd like to run through a Dresden game world build online. I think that would be fun. I've never been able to get a group to do it...

I don't know if I could condense what I do down into anything intelligible to discuss with anyone. Its such a jumble of random paths. If you go and look at the "2 Sides 1 Epic" posts, you will see a lot of people say "holy crap, how do I write down my adventure in a way other GM's can run it? I usually keep so much in my head".

I think using hangouts is a great idea. There are people all the time doing this sort of thing. It would be cool to see a Happy Jacks listeners / hosts roundtable away from the podcast. Pick a topic and time. Whoever shows up shows up. Grand idea!

I'd be willing to do something on Thursday, January 24 at... oh, say 5:30PM PST/ 8:30PM EST. If that works, then we should have a hangout!
I'd like to see how a Dresden game world gets built too! Unfortunately, I don't have any of the sourcebooks for that system, so someone else would have to do the actual leading of that. Anyone?

Schedule permitting I would be totally on board with that plan.

I have a world that me and two friends kinda slapped together. There are still many holes in lore, geography, etc. , and the players have agreed that since they are now playing in the world they have deferred all decisions about said world to me. I would love some HappyJacks insight.

Ok! So, why don't we have a session of workshopping our currently-under-construction worlds first, and then if we can find someone who has Dresden Files who can make a world with us, we can have a second session where all we do is make a random DF city?

Hmm, I don't see why that would be an issue. Is there anyone who would object to a 7 PST/ 10 EST chat instead of 5:30/8:30? I say 7 because I hate getting just in the door and thinking "OH GOD I NEED TO BE ONLINE RIGHT NOW!".

Hey guys, I just kinda wondered if maybe people would be interested in having a discussion some time, either over G+ or skype or mumble or something, about world-building as a GM. If you're on Twitter, look up Deborah Teramis Christian, @teramiswba. She is a novelist and game designer. If you've a profile on LinkedIn, you can catch up with her on the "English Speaking Tabletop RPG" group there. She recently had a discussion on this very thing on LinkedIn before Christmas. World building is her bag and she's only too happy to share her knowledge and discuss.

Ooh! I will totally look her up! Thanks CC! I'm in the LinkedIn discussion group, even though I don't often post much there. I really like seeing what other people have to say though.

I'd be game for either general discussion or Dresden world building. Any evening Monday-Thursday.
I love world building, either for novels or RPGs and it would be interesting to see other's perspectives on it.
RE Dresden, I did a Dresden-esqe world building from a GM perspective in a non-Dresden Fantasy setting. It worked out really well, better actually than the game itself (that actually only lasted three sessions). Would be interesting to work with it from the player perspective though.
