This may seem a little weird but I have some people whose only RPG experience is D&D of one form or another. I would like to introduce them to Fantasy Hero and for reasons of comfort for them and because it seemed like fun to me I thought I would prep an old fashioned kick down the door 1st level dungeon crawl for them. My question is, how many points would a 1st level D&D character be? This would be 1st or 2nd ed character Considering that 1st level fighter would be hard pressed to fight a couple of goblins I'm thinking 50 points with 50 of disads at most. Maybe as low as 25 and 25. Thoughts? Thanks

The Hero System book has this chart to show point values vs competency. Character Type | Total Points | Matching Complications | Maximum Points Per Complication | Normal | | | | Standard Normal | 25 | 15 | 15 | Skilled Normal | 50 | 25 | 20 | Competent Normal | 100 | 30 | 20 | Heroic | | | | Standard | 175 | 50 | 25 | Powerful | 225 | 50 | 25 | Very Powerful | 275 | 50 | 30 | Superheroic | | | | Low-Powered | 300 | 60 | 35 | Standard | 400 | 75 | 40 | High-Powered | 500 | 75 | 40 | Very High-Powered | 650 | 100 | 50 | Cosmically Powered | 750+ | 100+ | 50+ |
With the explanation of each as: Normals: The everyday inhabitants of the world; Heroes: The best people a typical society can produce; and Superheroes: Immensely powerful individuals the likes of which don’t exist in the real world. For me, it would seem a level 1 D&D character would fall between competent normal and standard heroic. I have not converted from D&D to Hero before and I have not read through Fantasy Hero, so take it with a grain of salt. -Robert

Rob is exactly dead on. For starting 1st level D&D character equivalents I would go with 150 point characters with 25-35 points in disads.
My Zombie Mall game run last May at GameX had 150 point characters and they were normal every day people.

Thanks for the feedback. The one thing I should have made clearer was that I was going to do this in Hero 5ed not 6. Having said that I think I can do competent normal to standard heroic on 5ed. Thanks again. The subject of whether I should switch to Hero 6 deserves its own thread. One thing at a time

I've thumbed through the books and even bought the "Day After Ragnarok" supplement which is very cool. What isn't as easy is convincing my wife that I should drop $$$ on a new set of Hero books when I own virtually all the 4e and 5e books and supplements. It will probably happen but it will take a while longer ;D

So if you find them grab them. JiB

Yeah, it's kind of sad. I've been playing since 1984 starting with Champions. The company has had a lot of ups and downs.
I think that the launch of 6e wasn't well handled. With 5e, which I admit has some issues, they published Sidekick which you could get for $10 or $15. I remember buying a bunch of them and giving them to fellow gamers I was hoping to interest in Hero.
I was looking at the new Champions in one of the local stores yesterday. It looks good.
