Hi everyone, its been a long time since I've been here, I guess all the old accounts got wiped?
Anyway we're going to be starting up a Pathfinder game at work and I was looking to build an Elf (desert runner) Magus, he basically comes from a desert tribe of nomads (essentailly a fremen)
Anyway, are there any tips for building this character?

I find that the magus works best if he's somewhat of a generalist. He won't be amazing at anything but he'll be pretty good at most things. Being a spell caster he'll sacrifice some combat stats up front but he can bolster them with buffing spells.

Hmm, thanks man. I'm not sure to focus on strength or dex for my main combat stat. I usually like the idea of Dex character more than a big strong dude, but it can be a pain to make it work. Just wondering if there is a particular advantage/disadvantage to dex based Magus.
Is the forum background bright pink for everyone or is that just me? It be nice if it didn't look like i was browsing 1996 web porn at work.

The build du jour is the dervish magus, focusing on really big crit damage using a scimitar and shocking grasp-style spells. It's dex based, utilizing the Dervish Dance feat (out of the Inner Sea World Guide I think...it's on the pfrd, regardless) to add DEX to hit and damage when using the scimitar. Since your spells crit if your weapon does when using Spell Combat, it can produce some ludicrous numbers.
Given that you're actually playing a character whose fluff would make the build a little more understandable than most, you might want to ask your GM about it. We can talk more about build specifics if you're interested, and there are tons of tips on the net.
I'm partial to the Bladebound archetype, btw. You give up some of your stock powers for a sentient magic blade, but it doesn't really work if you're starting at less than level 3.

Regarding spell strike, you can use your melee attack to deliver the spell instead of the normal touch attack. This melee attack still counts as your normal melee attack for spell combat right?
So my options as a magus are: 1. Cast a spell (any kind), and then make a melee attack (penalty) 2. The reverse of above (attack then cast) 3. Use spell strike to "Charge" my weapon with a spell (touch only) and then attack to "deliver" the weapon
I CANNOT use spell strike to make an attack with the weapon as my cast action and then make my normal melee attack, correct?
Sorry if that's a stupid question, just want to be sure.

That's correct. The only thing I'd add is that you can charge the spell before moving and attacking, so you can avoid attacks of opportunity at least once in a while.

Well after reading some guides it seems like spell strike does give you a second attack with your weapon, there was mention that a less reputable tactic is to use magic mark to get an extra attack.
