Cortex, like it or dislike it, either way I thought this was slightly interesting and wanted to post here. "It's official! MWP has secured the Firefly RPG license and we couldn't be more excited to be bringing the 'Verse back to your table. Check out the official Press Release and watch for cool PDF product to be released late spring of this year!" from margaretweis.com/margaretweis.com/images/stories/bonus_content/FIREFLY_MWP_PR.pdfAnd seriously, "cool PDF product" sounds like something you squeeze from a tube. Who talks like this in real life?

Saw this earlier and was surprised to hear that they've got the license, though I'm actually more surprised that the license was even available. Between this and the recently announced board game it seems Fox have finally decided to cash in on the franchise (the previous RPG was primarily licensed through Universal).
I'm a big fan of Cortex in general (both regular and Plus) as well as being a massive Firefly fan so am definitely looking forward to this, just hope it doesn't disappoint or end up being yet another Kickstarter.

Anyone remember the old Firefly RPG? Wasn't that MW too?

I think the Serenity rpg might have been one of the first Cortex games.

So the company that made the Serenity Rpg is now making the Firefly Rpg in the same system?... Are they just going to change the title on the old book? I remember really bad reviews of the Serenity Rpg.

I didn't care much for the original Cortex games. But if they're going to retool it along the lines of Leverage, Smallville, or Marvel, it'll probably be worth looking at.

Right. But if they already had the Serenity license, wouldn't they already have the FF license? My head hurts just thinking about this

Right. But if they already had the Serenity license, wouldn't they already have the FF license? My head hurts just thinking about this Yeah MWP had the Serenity license but that ended a couple of years ago (which is why the game is no longer on DriveThruRPG) and was primarily licensed through Universal as part of the movie tie in (due to this the minor characters from the show such as Badger were only allowed to be mentioned in the final Big Damn Heroes Handbook supplement). The new RPG license appears to be with Fox, hence why it's Firefly as opposed to Serenity. While I enjoyed the original game (and pre-Plus Cortex in general) the Plus system variants used in Smallville onwards are better and I'd be extremely surprised if they don't release the new game using another variant of the Plus mechanics.

Well this is a well thought out and extremely well written response. Are you sure you're on the Internet?

The license that they got was specifically for the movie IPs, and they had to be VERY careful about how, who and what they presented in the books. *This sounds extremely pretentious and a bit name-droppy.... That couldn't be further from the truth. Margaret will talk to anyone who approaches her at GenCon, and she is a fantastic and friendly person. No inside track to her should be assumed. Just a wonderful author who loves interacting with her fans.

An opportunity such as that is one of the reasons I'd love to get to GenCon some year, I've got a copy of the collectors edition, leather bound Serenity rulebook that I'd love to get signed by her. I've already got Jamie Chambers (the main designer) and my hope is to get the various cast members to sign it if I ever get the chance. Annoyingly I missed the chance to have Jewel Staite and Adam Baldwin sign it last year as I didn't have it in my flat before going to the con they were at.

It's a great time. And most of the people there are remarkably friendly to their fans. I've met and talked to a ton of writers, desigers, artists and others that are extremely thrilled to chat with fans.

I picked up that MW Serenity book about the same time I picked up their Battlestar Galactica book. (I think the licenses were expiring at a similar time). Fluff wise not bad.
But new Cortex is a far cry from old. (Old, you can pretty much just use the stats as Savage Worlds stats and you're golden).
I'll take a peek at this, it will likely work in a similar fashion to Marvel Heroic.

I just caught "Browncoats Unite," for the first time. That alone might make me buy it.
