Hey there! I am looking at running a game in DCC RPG this weekend. It will be a standard start - a character funnel. It would run sometime during the day on Sunday - but I am in Australia (UTC+10) so be aware of timezones, e.g. 12pm Sunday In Sydney will be 6pm Saturday in California (mind.... blown). If you are unfamiliar with DCC RPG - just look here: www.goodman-games.com/5070preview.html

No takers? This makes me a sad panda.... Maybe a bit more detail will help - for those who aren't sure what in the hell DCC RPG is (and cannot be arsed checking out the website)? Essentially the system is low/gritty dark fantasy, with the resolution mechanic based on (mostly) rolling a d20. BLURB: You’re no hero. You’re an adventurer: a reaver, a cutpurse, a heathen-slayer, a tight-lipped warlock guarding long-dead secrets. You seek gold and glory, winning it with sword and spell, caked in the blood and filth of the weak, the dark, the demons, and the vanquished. There are treasures to be won deep underneath, and you shall have them. I will be running a 'character funnel' adventure. Basically you roll up 4 random characters each at level 0 (includes stats, starting gear, occupation, birth auger etc.). These guys are usually some type of serf or peasant, with some moneylenders, sages and tax collectors also being possibilities. Generating these takes no more than a few minutes, and then you get straight to running them through their first adventure. Few will survive, they are just peasants (mostly) after all. Those who do make it through the adventure will level up and get to pick a class. In DCC RPG you do amazing and heroic things against impossible odds. Then you reach first level

Ahoy There in the Land Down Under!
I hope you might look to Jackercon 2013 as a means to try to get people to play this game. I know I am a BIG fan of DCC especially the art as it makes me all nostalgic in my hack in slash parts!
Cheers,
Curt J.

It's in June right?
I might just do that.
EDIT: But I AM still hoping to get enough players for this weekend. I need to fill probably 2 or 3 spots to fill the group out.
If anyone is keen then just post in here or PM me.

Hi.
I've never tried DCC, but from what I've just been reading online, it sounds like a lot of fun. If you'd be willing to have a noob join you, I'd like to try it. It just depends on what time you'll be running it. If you go with noon there, it'll be 10 pm here. I can do that, but I think any later and I'd be falling asleep on you.

The game begins in mere hours - still room for 1 or 2 more if people are keen.
Any last minute takers?

This game went ahead with two players. If adventures continue I would still like to add a player or two to fill the group out - more heads would definitely expand RP opportunities. I ran the 'funnel' adventure from the core book (The Portal Under the Stars) - with some scaling back of encounters due to having only eight 0 level characters (4 each is probably the manageable limit), and I changed some things to make it easily link in with the goings on out in the game world. My impression from behind the screen was that it went pretty well and the players had an enjoyable time. I will however reserve final judgement - the proof will be in the pudding if the adventures continue Probably the most awesome/bold thing the players did (who were very wary after two of them got skewered by spear traps in the second room) was taking on a giant demon snake - they all charged in to surround the creature which payed off in spades as they took it down without a single casualty! The funniest part for me was when Boris the farmer, emboldened by his unnaturally high stamina, decides to boldly take on 3 clay soldiers at once and rolls a natural one on the first swing of his pitchfork (FUMBLE TABLE DEPLOYED!!!!). He dropped his weapon, and then narrowly escaped being skewered as he employed a tactical retreat. This was closely followed by another character who boldly up to a flame-throwing statue, extinguishing what remained of its fuel supply (and being burnt to a crisp in the process). I think the worst part of the session was the first door, which was a trapped door that would open by simply waiting until nightfall for the stars to come out. One of the characters figured this out but the group could not agree to wait till nightfall. I think I tried a little too hard to give them opportunities to force the door - and should have made time pass a little faster.

Update: Session 2 of this game will be this weekend, Sunday 11:00am Sydney time (that is 5pm Saturday Pacific time). I am keen for an extra player to join us, so please let me know if you are interested. Summary so far, sans character names and backgrounds as I do not have character sheets in front of me ( SPOILERS: for those who haven't played the adventure from the DCC RPG core book, I changed plot elements but most ecverything inside the tomb is stolen straight from the book..... read with caution): After being conscripted to a militia, and being sent into a tomb by the military, the party of 8 intrepid grave robbersexplorers started making their way through the structure in earnest. After a few hours (game time) arguing about how to get the first door open, it fell dark and the light of the stars softly lit the gem encrusted door. One of the more intelligent peasants had earlier realised that the gems were set in the exact configuration of the constellations that would shine on the door IF it were night time, and they let out a groan of frustration at being proven right as machinery whirred and the seal of the door popped. Immeadiately after crossing the threshold into the next room, two poor souls were skewered by the spears of some mechanical statues. Peasant's lives are cheap, so the adventures continued on - but not before stripping their fallen comrades of all their belongings Upon entering the next room, a large chamber containing a huge monument to the war-wizard, they were shocked to find that the statue followed them around the room (rotating on a base) as they moved. Working as a team, they were able to confuse the monument enough to make it through the far door of the room - narrowly escaping a blast of searing flame which scorched the door behind them. They now found themselves in a larger room with a glowing pool of water (about the size of an olympic swimming pool), which they soon realised glowed because of gems encrusted on it's bottom. They encountered two crystalline men in this room but quickly realised they were simply attracted to the light of their torches. In true adventurwer fasion, they used their torches to lead the men to the edge of the pool and drop them in. At the far side of this room was a stairwell which took them down to a war-room complete with a large table adorned by an outdated map of the lands, and assorted figurines arranged atop it. The merchant in the party recognised a few of the figurines as solid silver and stowied them away, and the elf in the party saw fit to roll up the old map and pocket it. Adjoining this room was a large tiered chamber containing around 35 clay soldiers, including squad captains and a likeness of the war wizard himself. These of course animated part way through the room and it was at this point that a farmer got confident and attenmpted to take on 3 of them at once! Unfortunately, he critically failed in his attack and his pitchfork dropped to the ground. Luckily (extremely luckily), he was able to grab his weapon from the ground AND make a hasty exit the way they came. They players then barricaded the door with the table from the war room and made their way back to the room with the glowing pool. There were two other doors in the larger room with the statue so they decided to go back. After checking if the door was still hot, one of the poor souls strided confidently into the room, only to be burnt to a crisp by the statue. The farmer (the same lucky bastard who got away from the clay soldiers) strided in next, and the statue sputtered and spat in a measly attempt to throw fire at him. It was completely out of whatever fuel had powered it (the smell of burnt wood and oil was in the air). They then entered one of the other doors in this room, and encountered a stone throne and a GIANT FUCKING SNAKE WITH A DEMONIC HORN ON ITS HEAD. The characters looked at each other, nodded in silent assent, and all charged in to bravely surround the creature. The snake appeared lethergic and slow from it's time trapped in the tomb (I couldn't roll more than a 5 dammit), and the lucky farmer skewered the snake's head on his pitchfork while the elf stabbed a hole through its brain with a sharp jab of his staff into the roof of its mouth. The snake dissolved into ash and nothing but the horn remained. The elf took this, with the intention of having it made into a spear-tip later. This chamber was full of clay tablets depicting the exploits of the war wizard. In particular, strange otherworldly creatures offering him a grimoire of great power. They noticed a mirror on the inside of the door, and when sitting on the throne and gazing into it - they could see a moving panorama of unfamiliar stars.... The characters found nothing else of interest in this room so went back toward the large statue to see what else there is to be found in this ancient place. And that is where we left off. Maybe the soldiers outside have become sick of waiting for the peasants to return and is sending some more poor souls in?

Approx. 3 hours, and the start time is flexible.
How much later do you need it?
I can go to 6:00pm or 7:00pm PST without too much problem...... later than that might be difficult.
However, I need another-nother player now as one is unavailable (life in the way).
Anyone else in?

Done.
Any other takers for 7?
We need at least one more confirmed for it to go ahead (although I am waiting on a confirmation so it may regardless).
