Hey all,
I was just listening to the latest episode of Fear the Boot (304) and it's a discussion with a bunch of gaming related crowdfunding (Kickstarter/indeGoGo) people, including a guy who is part of the Pathfinder Online Kickstarters we discussed on the FB group a while ago.
Super interesting stuff.

I listened to that one. I think it's worth listening to for sure.

Yup. I listened to both parts. Dan's a good interviewer.

Found it a bit disturbing how readily one of them admitted to having friends with credit cards standing by, to push over struggling projects. Kickstarter needs to start cracking down on this sort of behavior, or else fraud is going to become very common on Kickstarter. If I start a Kickstarter with a $3k goal and it only gets $2k, I can double my money by kicking in the other $1k. Combine that with little recourse for backers if someone simply walks away with the money, and you have a lot of potential for abuse.

A couple things.
Firstly, I don't think Kickstarter *can* do anything about this. How would you tell the difference between a real back who drops a thousand dollars, and a buddy of the organizer doing the same?
Secondly, seeing how this Doom thing shakes out for Mr. Chevalier will definitely determine how easy it is to walk away with Kickstarter money. If nothing comes of it and he gets away with it, yes, you're absolutely right.

It did strike me as a little shady, though.

On the other hand, how would you feel if you came down to the last minute on a $5000 kick starter and were $500 short?it would be a shame to have to abandon the project over that.
