Hey guys. I want to get more info on Pathfinder Society.
I want to play some Pathfinder at Strategicon (I want to be a player for once) and at the con I see an entire area dedicated to Pathfinder, but it seems to be some organziation, and I want to get in some all-night games there. Anyone know about these guys and who to talk to?
Thanks
Andres

Here are two sites that should help you. The first is where you can create an account and character to get you ready for Pathfinder Society. paizo.com/pathfinderSocietyThe second should have all the information you need on Pathfinder Society. paizo.com/products/btpy84k4I have never played in an organized game, but the gist of it is that you create a character that can be used in any official Society game. Any levels and loot you obtain transfer over to every game you play. edit: proofreading is gud.

I'm not overly a fan of organized play personally but some people have a great time doing it. I'm not going to go into an in depth explanation of Pathfinder Society because the links already given will do that much better. There will likely be some other Pathfinder games show up as well on the schedule. For example, Tyler has been known to run Pathfinder at conventions in the past.

Society play is not for everyone. It is ruled by minmaxing munchkin powergamers for sure. I won't deny that. It doesn't mean you can't have fun doing it though.

I've never participated in Pathfinder Society, but I occasionally got involved in Living City. I found them to be a mixed bag of min-maxing and decent RPing.

And really want I want is just to do some late-night Role-playing. I felt that in years past the only role-playing going on past midnight was the Pathfinder society, that's my main reason why I asked.
If people know of other games going on late, let me know!

Don't get your hopes up for too much role playing. The adventures are scripted, and while you have some choices, you don't have the freedom or choice that regular games offer. It will take 3 games to gain a level and each adventure usually has some neat gimmick in it like special rules for an interesting chase or fortifying a village. In the end the amount of fun you have, as usual, depends completely on the GM and other players with you. If it's the only game at night then go for it.

Andy Pathfinder modules are already pretty railroady. Pathfinder Society straps a fucking JET ENGINE to the train. If you go in as a solo player, the role-play is almost nonexistent. Take friends. Play a low level game. Dominate it. That's what I did last con with Bruce and Casey.
