Congrats: But "savage worlds" is the preferred system of Happy Jacks? I sort of thought it was a mix of Savage Worlds, Gurps, Legend of the 5 Rings, and a bit of other stuff.

Holy crap! Big changes from last year. Congrats Stu and Crew.
"Preferred System" Savage Worlds? (how did they come up with that?)

Boom! Called it! Hahahaha love it! You guys rock, great job.
As for the preferred system I would have to assume its a conglomeration of listener responses.

Yahhhh!!!!! Quoting the back page of the survey: Game Systems: The “Preferred Tabletop Roleplaying Game System” is an open input field—i.e. the sur- vey respondents can answer in any way they like. In order to derive meaningful data, I do my best to interpret responses and consolidate games by system, sub-system, version, and company as appropriate for each case. There were many more gaming systems listed than are on the chart of game systems. A game needed to garner at least 2% of all listeners and be distinct from another game system or version to make it onto the wheel chart. Aaron

As someone who runs Pathfinder beginner box games the other big data point that I take from this is...WE GOTTA DO MORE TO GROW THE FUCKIN' HOBBY!
The average age of beginner box gamers at the wife's bookstore is around 18-20. The average age of people playing DnD encounters at the FLGS was roughly 25.
After reading so many of those answers to maxinstuffs thread about how we got into RPGs and being lovingly drug through everyone's dark and scary memory lanes...I just want to see this weirdo hobby be more accessible to the young uns...
If I found HJs when I was int college years I would have loved it....
So this brings my broken mind to the idea...HAPPY JACKS LIVE FROM CAL STATE LONG BEACH: THE GLORY HOLE CAST...(or something like that...)
There's gotta be an rpg club at the old alma mater right??

Congrats! Super stoked to see us beat the Booters (though, since I've been to 2 FTCs, I guess I'm 1/2 or 1/3 Booter or something).

Does that mean that FtB hosts now have to do your laundry and lawn Stu? Aaron

As someone who runs Pathfinder beginner box games the other big data point that I take from this is...WE GOTTA DO MORE TO GROW THE FUCKIN' HOBBY! Not sure that podcast listeners getting older is a sign that new people aren't coming in. I mean, I went online to look for podcasts when I started Gming to get advice, but I can imagine lots of people don't. It's still possible to just game with friends without meeting many other gamers, especially if you're just high-school/college age and being introduced to it by a friend, why would you go online to listen to podcasts about gaming under these circumstances? I'm the only one in my group who does, and none of us is older than 26. I'm guessing most people who start to listen to RPG podcasts are already deeply involved with the hobby, so they're looking for news on specific systems or they want to get advice on certain problems/Gming or are looking for Actual Plays to check out systems they may not get to play. So naturally they'd be a bit older on average.

I was taking a look at the map and it was interesting to see the clusters of where listeners are. There was a surprisingly low turnout from the LA are on the map (zoomed in) so we need to get to work spreading the word even further.
