They also have a G+ group and the developer is very open to discussing the product.

I have been very enthused mucking about with Roll20 here and there (though, admittedly, I've so far not actually run/played a game with it) -- but I have to say, I really like the look of this much, much better! Here's hoping the end product looks anything like the video, actually works, and is released before I'm having to gum my food.

This just looks like more shit that can crash. I fairly happy with roll20, but most of the time I don't bother with map stuff, it's the G+hangout video that makes it worthwhile...

I went ahead and backed this. The creator is very passionate and he has an alpha available for backers.
The alpha is stable and already has quite a few features. I love Roll20 and G+ but I have to admit this looks so slick it's likely to pull me away from G+ and Roll20.

So with an open mind I went and checked out the kickstarter.
Nope.
Separate licenses needed for play. 1 for the GM and 1 for each players. The players can, of course, choose to purchase the cheaper "player only" license but will not be able to host or run games.
That is archaic. That is how the last generation of VTTs worked and why frankly I could never get any of my friends interested.
This will not be taking me away from Roll20.

Only the ability to HOST a game should require a purchase.

Yep we play with fantasy grounds and between the six of us Smiteworks has raked in an additional 200 dollars. However, the various system interfaces (pathfinder, savage worlds, warhammer, castles and crusdaes) and character sheets etc are WAY easier, shinier, useful than roll20. But yeah it's a 30 dollar buy in...I will once again be using my universal license to have a demo of the VTT for Jcon. If I can get any suckers...I mean volunteers.
But roll20 does have the jukebox function something I will be using in my upcoming Jackercon Paranoia game...

I don't think roll20 is the prettiest girl on the block, but she's easy and a cheap date.
