I'm not able to play or meet with my regular group. Because of that, I have ideas festering in my head, scratching at the walls for a way out. Congratulations jackers! You are the recipients of my contagious madness!
Too much coffee and a day off...
I wanted to share some setting ideas, and hear others. There are times where I feel we yell about agency and AC and crunch, but don't pass much inspiration around as far as story goes. Maybe just a paragraph or so of settings or plot that you don't think you'll ever play/run but wish to Hastur you could?
What is creeping at the back of your mind?
As much as I want to go first, I want to draw you guys out. Forget system, forget crunch, forget railroads. Gimme a good story.

Players make normal people, civilian types without all the special skills/training that your average hero might have. Modern day setting, game starts as World War Three begins. Its a game of survival, no zombies, or monsters, or aliens. Just ordinary people trying to stay alive in the middle of a war. Possibly choosing sides, possibly just trying to stay out of the line of fire.
A big modern day sandbox, at least to start with. Maybe throw in the crazy stuff later should the game last awhile.

Some sort of Old One horror wakes up and the first wave is a zombie outbreak similar to World War Z. Then a dark mist starts spreading across the globe. People retreat to high ground and the air. Since planes aren't very efficient for indefinite airtime, we turn to modern jury rigged airships to function as homes and travel between mountainous havens.
This isn't necessarily Steampunk as it takes place in modern times with whatever tech is salvageable. Maybe dangerous trips are made to the ground to scavenge for badly needed resources.
I just picture an airship battle over a dark miasma and as the battle rages, a large tentacled thing reaches out and simply pulls a ship out of the sky.

Midgard 5000 (aka Vikings in Space): They´re Vikings. They´re in space. Instead of seas or rivers they sail through space (well ok, they might as well sail seas and rivers and stuff). They wear horned helmets, because in the horns sit the antennas for their communicators. Here are a few things i´m still nor sure about: - Do they live on entire planets, or on "floating" islands? - Do their dragonships look like classic dragonships, but with solar panel sails, or more like small aircraft carriers with solar panel sails? - Energy weapons? Yes! BUT, should the ranged weapons look like energy pistols & rifles OR look like bows & crossbows?

I've had an idea for a Star Wars game I wanted to run, but I've never been able to get around to. The players are an A-Team type group that come out of cryosleep/stasis. There are no indications of who is in charge, but an automated message tells them they were to be woken up if there was a tyrant in charge that needs to be removed. This mission is backed up by very strong Force suggestions implanted in them. The problem is Darth Vader set the whole thing up as a big F U to the Emperor if Palpatine bumped him off. Now that Vader has been dead thirty years, a new Republic is up and running and these people have to struggle to stop themselves from starting a coup.
