I haven't played C&C yet (will be playing in a game at the Fantasy Grounds Virtual Con coming up), but it definitely reminds me of old school AD&D with the cumbersome stuff like THAC0 and weapon speed thrown out, and replaced by modern mechanics. I'm really excited to try it out.

Come into the 21st century Max. JiB I just...... can't do it. I don't really have an argument for this. I just like the heft of a tome The number of stuck together pages give one a sense of accomplishment. Be careful buying off Troll Lords directly - they invoiced me shipping to the UK in US Dollars and then charged the same amount as UK pounds. Aaron

Once I started utilizing a tablet for my RPG books the PDF aversion became less of an issue. But my wife works at a bookstore...so we know people .

It's really nice to carry lots of books around on my ipad ( i would have gone android, but that's a completely different story ), but i don't like reading them at my desktop. Just reading my pdfs on a tablet is fine, but at the game table i still prefer the actual books. Castles & Crusades 5th Edition for example is a bit slow since they "upgraded" the books pages with full colour backgrounds.

Way late to the party here, but I'm curious about something @pyscoteddie. Why do you want to change editions? Is it because your group doesn't like the current edition you're playing? Or is it just to try something new? Always a good question in role-playing games, and less and less considered. Not such a pertinent question when it comes to board games since switching from Diplomacy to Parcheesi (for an example) has the answer inherent within it. Not asking this question suggests to me the direction RPGs are headed. My advice would be to finish in the same edition and then look at others. 2, 3.x, and 4 are all D&D, but they're just not the same games. This is true and there is no one else to blame for any confusion than WOTC marketing. They're all good games and, because they are role-playing games, you can play them in many satisfying ways. I would play 4e more like AD&D 1e - and I could do that except the culture shock the players of 4e would be sure to vocalize. Hi i have been a GM for a little over a year, my last GM left us and only wanted to play second edition and me and my players want to move up into the new editions. Would it be better to start in 3, 3.5, or 4? i am currently running my own campaign which took me 6 months to set up and if i have to move everything to a new edition will this suck lol or should i finish it in second edition. Where does the seam from 2e and the next game join is where I would make the transition. At its heart, role-playing games are games that occur within a spontaneous and organic story (gestalt) shared by the active participation of its players (rather than the fan-fiction background many players mistake for "story" within a wargame). So where does the call for a new set of rules occur within the context of the story? That is where I would make the crossover. Again, this is a consideration that is unique to RPGs and not a thought to cross one's mind when putting away the box of Risk for a game of poker, for example.

Sometime next year, iirc. DDI will stop receiving updates in March, and I suspect that it will release early summer, so that people will have it for GenCon.
