My lovely wife told me about this Kickstarter. It's an MMORPG based on the world of Jane Austen. I'm not sure whether I should be amused, horrified, or intrigued. On the one hand, Jane Austen, really? On the other an MMO that won't start with, "Go collect 100 rat gizzards and bring them back and I'll give you 25 gold and this keen dagger." might be a nice change of pace. Some one should tell them the sound on their video is messed up. At least it was on my computer. www.kickstarter.com/projects/30564009/ever-jane-the-virtual-world-of-jane-austenThoughts? Pete

Pete I saw this a few days back, but despite my penchant for posting non-tabletop-rpg things here, I didn't share. Back then it only snagged a 4% chance of success on Sidekick, but it had a massive day yesterday, and is likely to fund. I'm intrigued by the gossip based "combat" system. But the graphics (ok pre-pilot I know) look dreadful. All very Second Life (in fact I bet the project started there). The avatars seem to float about like Daleks, and give I live about four miles from where JA lived, I can assure your and work in and around the places she set her books, the geology and flora seem very wrong. I short I wouldn't kick in, but I might play a while if it's funded.

Yup I should be better about not posting stuff that's not RPG related.
I was intrigued by the idea of an RPG where combat was handled through gossip. Even politics heavy, social heavy, games like Vampire have the threat of overt violence that the characters have to deal with.
Except for the possibility of a sound thrashing for some bounder a Jane Austen game would be devoid of violence. I'm not sure how I would approach a game with only social combat.
