A monumentally awesome non-combat event happened last night in the Pathfinder game I'm in now. At least, I think it was awesome. So, as a little background I created this character using the inspiration of the Leverage and Hustle tv shows. An elf rogue conman. He's not a thief per se, he doesn't steal things from people as a general rule, he cons them out of their money. When we started playing I played him up as the fop conman he was and failed to make trap checks, didn't really fight well in combat, etc. Amateur adventurer, without a doubt. That was 7 levels ago. Now, he's kind of a bad ass in a lot of ways.
Last night we arrived in a merchant city where we were looking to get some information in order to plan our upcoming mission. We were also equipping ourselves for that mission. In that vein I went to a magic shop to enchant my weapon. Being the smooth operator that I am I decided to use my skills to lower the price of the 2000gp enchantment and succeeded so well that I got it for 1500gp and the merchant woman was quite enamored with me. She basically propositioned me which I politely declined, and then tried to sweeten the deal by offering me a Figurine of Wondrous Power for only 100gp. Not being one to look a gift horse in the mouth, I bought it.
Turns out my suave nature wasn't as suave as I thought... she played me like a fiddle. This figurine ended up being cursed. Had our wizard check it out and he determined I would take -2 to every roll while it was in my possession and I couldn't get it out of my possession without someone freely accepting it(like a dumb ass rogue buying it). So I hatched a plan.
Among my other talents I'm also a fair hand at disguise. So I dress up in my finest nobleman's garb and head out to the noble district. Once I pick out a likely target I relieve him of his purse with a nice pick pocket roll. Then I sleight of hand the figurine inside it. I roll a mega bluff when I call out to the noble "Pardon me sir I believe this pouch is yours? I think you may have dropped it. This pouch and its contents are indeed yours yes?" He agrees that they are indeed so I hand him the pouch and walk away whistling.
The GM looked at me open mouthed, shaking his head.
Great roleplaying and roll playing on both sides made for a fabulous interaction and a great scene.
